Does anyone else have feral parrots in their immediate area? LA curbed partly blames Busch Gardens for at least some of the 13 varieties which have taken root here. Our closest flock used to be at Rancho Park Rec Center on Pico, but since just before the holidays, a flock has moved to a big old sycamore on our block. Noisy, but not unwelcome, although in combination with the Santa Anas it's a little bit crazy-making.

I think I see bluebells....but I can't tell if they're blue

Hmmm, the plants, as far as I can make them out, are quite elite and unusual: I'm seeing some sprays of orchids, bluebells (Campanulas of some species--there are many Campanula species), I think I see a stalk of Fritillaria (or perhaps Yucca!), and there are some Sweet Peas. And I think I see a Nasturtium leaf or two. Oh, and there's a spray of native Aquilegia (Columbines), Aquilegia formosa truncata perhaps. It's a most interesting collection of flowers.

I looked for Elliott Dexter in some city directories but found him only in the 1918 LACD, living at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

However, the home in the 1917 article looks like it might be 2000 N. Gramercy Place (b. 1900), near the lower left corner in the
first photo below:

The left-hand picture, I picked up on eBay quite some time ago. Unless vague memory deceives me, it was represented as being a view of Los Angeles (and I wouldn't have purchased it if it weren't). Likely it was originally out of a book or periodical telling some tale of old L.A.

I exercised to exhaustion the several brain cells I have which still work trying to figure out just what L.A. site in reality they were trying to show, when suddenly--quite some time ago--it struck me that the Palms seemed to have been modeled on the Palms in what I call the Aliso Mill view (on the right). "So what?" Well, yes--"so what" indeed; but I thought that perhaps y'all would like to see these two images in tandem, and that perhaps y'all might have some observations on same.

I agree that the left-hand image was modeled on the College Street Twin Palms, which e_r showed us in October 2016.

Almost as beautiful as Evelyn Nesbitt, who settled in L.A. in her later years long after her troubles with "Sanny" White & a crazy hubby. Evelyn taught art in her later years, I do believe. Does anybody have any pics of Evelyn in her later years in L.A., or newspaper stories?

We have them in Burbank, but they seem to be here seasonally, maybe in the winter or early spring. I think I heard, but not saw, some a week or so ago. When I see them, they are usually flying and I am driving so I can't get a good look at them to see what kind they might be. The ones we have, I believe are green and medium sized, bigger than a crow but not as big as some of the Amazon species.

I just read an article which said that out of the 372 species in the world, there are 11 kinds of naturalized parrots in Southern California.
