Labor Day concert 1971 at site of Brooks Ave. (soon to be the gay section) Everyone of the LGBT crowd was there-especially the many surfer lesbians -all topless. We listened to Black Oak Arkansas among other group. I was nearby Sly Stone who was having wild times with his ex-Marine body builder dressed in harem boy outfits ! so if the dates are correct, the Dexters lived in the house briefly in the mid 20s, and then Carrie Jacobs-Bond moved back in after their departure,
and lived there until her death in 1946.

Jacobs-Bond gave a Chicago address on the BP. Maybe she didn't move out here until the Dexters left (?)

Hmmm, the plants, as far as I can make them out, are quite elite and unusual: I'm seeing some sprays of orchids, bluebells (Campanulas of some species--there are many Campanula species), I think I see a stalk of Fritillaria (or perhaps Yucca!), and there are some Sweet Peas. And I think I see a Nasturtium leaf or two. Oh, and there's a spray of native Aquilegia (Columbines), Aquilegia formosa truncata perhaps. It's a most interesting collection of flowers.

Interesting bio of Marie Doro at IMDB

"...In later life she became increasingly drawn to a more spiritual life, and ended as a recluse, actively avoiding friends and acquaintances. She was briefly married to actor Elliott Dexter, the marriage soon ending in divorce. She had no children and never remarried...

Elliott Dexter (1915 - ?) (divorced)...

In Charles Chaplin's autobiography, "My Autobiography", he states that she was his first love."

and Elliott Dexter had two mental breakdowns.

the breakdowns (the first one included a stroke that left him with a limp) ended his acting career.

(I'll have to look up the details)

Oh my gosh odinthor, I had no idea! (here I was all proud that I recognized a bluebell. lol)

Here's a 2nd photograph from the same photo shoot....but with less plants & flowers.

I prefer this one. she's much prettier here (in my humble opinion)

I'm starting to think that the Dexter-Doros never moved in to the House at the End of the Road.

This is all we have to connect Elliot Dexter to the Jacobs-Bond house?:

Dunno.

We need oldstuff.

ETA:

Hang about, in 1923 Jacobs-Bond turned the house into a duplex by adding a kitchen and bath:

ladbs

So Dexter and Jacobs-Bond could have lived at the house at the same time, Dexter needing a home between marriages.

I hadn't thought of that.

(Jacobs-Bond had more work done in '38, adding stairs)

I looked for Elliott Dexter in some city directories but found him only in the 1918 LACD, living at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

However, the home in the 1917 article looks like it might be 2000 N. Gramercy Place (b. 1900), near the lower left corner in the
first photo below:

This is 2000 N. Gramercy; if it really was first constructed in 1900, perhaps we've seen it in a photo earlier than 1924?:

It certainly looks like the right house FW.

I don't remember discussing Tyron Ridge. Is there a story behind the name?

did Tyron Power own it? (joke)

both, odinthor collection

The left-hand picture, I picked up on eBay quite some time ago. Unless vague memory deceives me, it was represented as being a view of Los Angeles (and I wouldn't have purchased it if it weren't). Likely it was originally out of a book or periodical telling some tale of old L.A.

I exercised to exhaustion the several brain cells I have which still work trying to figure out just what L.A. site in reality they were trying to show, when suddenly--quite some time ago--it struck me that the Palms seemed to have been modeled on the Palms in what I call the Aliso Mill view (on the right). "So what?" Well, yes--"so what" indeed; but I thought that perhaps y'all would like to see these two images in tandem, and that perhaps y'all might have some observations on same.
I agree that the left-hand image was modeled on the College Street Twin Palms, which e_r showed us in October 2016.

"Taken from the hill just above Inspiration Point looking east, this Kodatone image clearly shows the viewing tubes in front of the Ramada,
Herbert the Mule and his OM&M Railway car, Easter Rock and the flag pole along the path between Herbert’s right-of-way and Easter Rock.

The flag pole is difficult to see...so here's a closer look from the 1920s.

There isn't any information with this one....but their clothes make me think 1930s.

I wonder which telescope is missing here? (it's some place between San Pedro and Venice) that doesn't narrow it down much does it. lol

any ideas?

Almost as beautiful as Evelyn Nesbitt, who settled in L.A. in her later years long after her troubles with "Sanny" White & a crazy hubby. Evelyn taught art in her later years, I do believe. Does anybody have any pics of Evelyn in her later years in L.A., or newspaper stories?

Does anyone else have feral parrots in their immediate area? LA curbed partly blames Busch Gardens for at least some of the 13 varieties which have taken root here. We have them in Burbank, but they seem to be here seasonally, maybe in the winter or early spring. I think I heard, but not saw, some a week or so ago. When I see them, they are usually flying and I am driving so I can't get a good look at them to see what kind they might be. The ones we have, I believe are green and medium sized, bigger than a crow but not as big as some of the Amazon species.

I just read an article which said that out of the 372 species in the world, there are 11 kinds of naturalized parrots in Southern California.
