The wooden Moscow is my favorite so far. It's quite beautiful. Makes me want to go visit.

Here's the new larger model of Downtown Chicago on display at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. I apologize for not having more photos, but I only had a few minutes before my tour started.

I'll take more of it the next time I go on one of their tours. The whole exhibit is very cool, actually.

^^ Columbian Model Makers has spent about 6-8 months designing and creating that model, which in person is pretty amazing. Since they do a lot of scale models for a lot of architecture firms in Chicago, they were able to include all building currently under construction or recently completed, such as the Aqua and Legacy @ Millenium park. even thought the model itself is only of the Chicago "Central Area" portion (it doesn't include anything along the gold coast/lincoln park/lakeview/edgewater or anthing south of the museum campus area) it's impressive because the scale is pretty large, 1/64" = 1'-0" if I remember correctly.

It's amazing. Did I spy the (unfortunately) half-built Waterview in there as well?

More Chicago Model City pics.

Here are more photos of the Chicago Model City presented by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

For those unfamiliar with Chicago, the CAF is at the Railway Exchange Building (Santa Fe Bldg.) on South Michigan Avenue at Jackson Blvd., across from the Art Institute and Grant Park.

I took these yesterday. I apologize that I had to use the flash.

Hannover has a cool display of 4 versions of the city: a 1600 verion of a midevil Hannover, a 1938 model with a beautyful baroque city, a 1945 model of just rubble and a 1995 model of a modern city. Pretty neat, but I didn't have a camera handy...

Sometimes I fantasize about having a warehouse of my own so I can have a huge model like that. There would be leather rolly chairs and an old refrigerator stocked with cold beer. It would be good. And of course, you guys could come over any time.

Me too, Kevin. I'd actually like to have two: one that represents the actual city and one that I can add proposals, or redo zoning how I see fit, etc. Of course, that one would end up being Coruscant.

Here's a gallery of a model train diorama of the South Bronx (by Peter Feigenbaum):

And here's a video of the same model:

^ Wow, it took him 2,000 hours to do the midtown model (that's like a year of a full-time job).

Glad they included this pic in the link you provided NYguy, it gives some sense of scale:
