Construction workers report construction workers "hard at work." In an unrelated matter, my barber reports that I need a haircut.

Abatement will be done in a couple weeks and crews will mobilize for demolition shortly after.

That was a characterization and not really their characterization. Mine. They just said they are working on abatement. The point is that demolition won't be happening just yet. But it's nice to see them plugging away.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Demolition at Broad and Spruce Streets to Begin UArts has been informed that demolition of the building on the southeast corner of South Broad and Spruce Streets-the former site of Utrecht Art Supplies and Philadelphia International records-and of the building between Cypress Street and the empty lot at 313 South Broad Street is anticipated to begin on February 23, the start of the construction process for a high-rise hotel/condominium project there. During construction, a "bump-out" zone is expected to take over the right-most northbound lane of Broad Street and continue around the corner onto Spruce Street for a half-block east of Broad. Officials tell UArts that safe pedestrian traffic flow will be provided for as part of the bump-out. We will provide further information as it becomes available.

Demolition has not begun. But it's got to be any day now. There is real machinery onsite now.

When I was at UARTS, I had to walk past that lot nearly every day and was wondering when something would finally be done with it. Glad to see it finally going away!

EDIT fun fact: UARTS was wanting to build a high rise dorm on this very site in the early 2000's but the plans were NIMBY'D to death, so they converted 311 Juniper Street (in the background) instead. Another UARTS dorm conversion, 1228 Spruce St can be seen behind the yellow crane....

Nothing was going on when I walked by this morning. The machinery is just sitting there.

I know he's been involved from the start. But pretty cool he came for this press conference.
