Loving the 17th floor restaurant. That view will be stunning. I remember when Earls On Top was the best view in the city, this will blow that out of the water. I'd make a point of staying at this hotel when it is built, really great addition to the downtown

Traffic in Kelowna in the summer is stupid, no doubt about it. But I've never found it that bad outside of tourist season.

Traffic last summer was definitely lighter than usual because the smoke and threat of wildfires kept some tourists away.

Yes my folks noted the same. A good friend of mine manages one of the nicer hotels in Vernon and she told me that between the flooding and closure of the lakes and the wildfires, it was a really light tourist season. Up at our cabin near 100 mile it hit them even harder.

Forgot about the floods. The waters were frigid until August.

An alternate approval process has been set up for the 2.9km long South Perimeter Road which is expected to cost up to $10.7 million. If 10% of residents do not sign a petition to force a referendum on or cancel the project, construction is expected to start this spring with a completion date of spring 2019. The new road would provide a third connection from Upper Mission south to Central Kelowna.

City planners are recommending that City Council reject the latest Westcorp hotel DP.

Us locals should try to make any DP hearings.

Why are they suggesting it be rejected? because of the height? I hope it goes through.

Reasons are in the linked article.

City Council will discuss on Tuesday, February 20 from 6 to 10pm. I'll probably attend.

Why do taller towers scare British Columbians so much?

We really are as vanilla as it gets sometimes.

The Kelowna skyline needs a pinnacle

This tower is elegant and is in the perfect location.

Where can I write my support for this tower??

Nice to see that they're planning a mixed-use, village centre at the otherwise SFH-dominated Wilden:

I suspected a majority of people do support it but the NIMBYs will be the loudest.

^ I dunno... I understand concerns when a developer tries to throw a wall of high rise apartments right up against a single family neighborhood, but this is right in the commercial core, and an attractive building at that. I can't see too much legitimate opposition

Peachland city council votes 5-2 in favour of changing OCP which will allow a new five storey development to go ahead.

The current proposal is by far the best one yet. I think it will be an excellent landmark for the city and will add to the beauty of the city as can be seen on the bridge approach.
