Agreed but I am still taken back sometimes by the density of drug stores in Center City. I think if walk score was based purely on Drug Store access, Philadelphia would be world champion.

^ I was thinking the same thing about Duane Reade. No matter where I stay in Manhattan, I don't think I'm ever more than two blocks from one.

I've seen Duane Reade stores across the street from each other in Manhattan.

On drugstores:

The Good - Out of milk? Eggs? Iced tea? Toiletries? Junk food and other basic groceries? Drugs? You can find it there. Even at 3 in the morning!

The Bad - Why does it seem like drugstores have a markup on literally everything?

The Bottom Line - Drugstores are just a fact of life for those of us who live in cities. Now if only there were places where it was as convenient to buy a 6-pack of beer...

The Target is complete on the Chestnut Street side. Work has started on the restaurant coming to the old Boyd lobby space. The tower has not started work yet.

Geez, between the great design, color choice, ample windows and new sidewalks, I can help think this is a real winner (cough, cough).

I'm assuming no updates on the tower portion of this project? Hopefully the philly.com report highlighting the recent decrease in average rents is not causing too much concern to proceed.

as with several other high profile projects there has been no news on this in many, many months. Actually, I think the last bit of news was the CDR presentation.

If they don't get this tower off of the ground by the summer, you can bet Pearl Properties will be run the hell out of this town for demolishing the Boyd and leaving it an empty lot.

Or not.

There doesn't seem to be a penalty to raze historic buildings and leave blank mud pits in their wake. Oh, sorry, National Building. I didn't see you standing there.

Ironic, isn't it? That possibly America's most historic city would leave so much of its own local history in the dust while emphasizing the places with historical prominence on a national level?

Maybe they're trying to break the Guinness world record set by the folks at the W site.

Makes perfect sense.

Pearl has no problems leasing their buildings up or reselling them; I suspect their financing capacity constrains their pipeline more than anything else.
