The vast number of letters for this project were in support though - which is a good indication of things.

Start date late 2012 - finish in 2.5 years (before 2015).
It's been put on the record folks, so if they get approval and don't do anything...we know UG is a waste of time.

at least the past three speakers have at least brought support to their arguements for the development be voted down.

Still can't believe the mps for the area was done in 1985?

I would be excited if this development weren't UG.

I'm not surprised.
When I worked for HRM - one of the things that surprised me was that back when Fairview was in the county, when the land was annexed into the City, the City decided to downzone a large portion of Fairview (if I recall - Melrose all the way over to Frederick and from DVR to Willet) from R-2 to R-1 to limit development to single detached dwellings.

Problem with that is that the county approved many of the homes as duplexes, which now made them all legally non-conforming (including my mom's house).

Fast forward to late 90's/early 2000's and the fact that records for this area from the county were pretty poorly kept - it became difficult for people living in this area to prove their duplexes were legal. I've never been able to figure out why it was downzoned, but considering most of the houses were duplexes - if they redo the MPS, let's rezone it back to R-2. It makes no sense to have down zoned all that development, when it was done to an R-2 standard.

Tamara Lorincz was in fine form at council tonight - accused Russell Walker of lying, malfeasance, and all sorts of other nasty things; made equally vile accusations towards the developer; speed-shouted her entire presentation; and in general screwed herself out of any sympathy her side might have had. What a winner.

Totally agree - totally makes me sad as someone who grew up in Fairview.

All drama aside it's good to hear it was approved. The development looks quite nice in the renderings, and despite the whining it does include both a public park and a walkway. If it is built it will definitely help that area.

There is a sign on the fence now saying "Coming Soon". It has a rendering of the site plan and says go to unitedgulf.ca, which takes you directly to Skye Halifax.

As reported over in Development Rumors site work has begun. A wall facing the Esso is well under way and the project has a name.... "The Boss Plaza". I laughed when I read it, but its easy to remember, so its doing it job I suppose.
