Century Properties taps Armani for new project
by James Loyola | Manila Bulletin | Sunday | November 10, 2013

MANILA, Philippines - Century Properties Group has teamed up with Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani to design luxury residential units for its latest skyscraper, Century Spire, which is seen to generate sales of around P8 billion.

The 60-story Century Spire is the last of the five upscale residential towers to rise in the company’s 3.4-hectare flagship mixed-use development Century City in Makati.

The Italian fashion legend will undertake the project through his interior design firm Armani/Casa, whose most recent projects include The World Towers in Mumbai and the Macka Residences in Istanbul.

Interesting, to say the least. As with all of Daniel Libeskind's work, the devil will be in the details and the materials used on the final tower. With good materials, this could be a stunner. With poor materials, it could end up a jumbled mess.

It's a little cluttered. I'm not liking the angle which uncovers where the balconies are on the bottom two thirds and the the darker, what I'll call punch-outs, squares near the top that allude to the original exterior beneath are not doing it for me. I think I get the reason, but I just find them visually disjointing for the rest of the form.

An interesting building though.

Agreed, although I would like to say that for just about any other structure designed by architects with avant-garde leanings.

This design will certainly not please every one, owing to its unusual, crystalline form, which jarringly pierces for one's attention. But I think that was intentional on Libeskind's part, since this is going up outside the bounds of the Makati Central Business District.
