^Are you really interested in this answer or are you trying to derail the conversation. . . considering the building is already under construction there's nothing left to discuss until we hear otherwise. . .

Why would I be trying to derail the conversation? Considering the number of projects like this that get stalled or delayed (and sometimes cancelled) because of financial issues, I think it's a perfectly reasonable question. Especially considering it's taken so long for it to actually get to the point where we can consider it officially under construction. It's a pure curiosity question, don't assume I have some sort of agenda.

If we don't have any reason to assume it won't get built, that's all you have to say. There's no reason to attack me about it.

In other words, yes, I'm really interested in the answer.

^I don't see where your confusion is. . . It /is/ already under construction. . . there has been no indication that they aren't building exactly what they are proposing. . .

That's all you had to say in the first place. There was no need for the assumptions or condescension.

this is easily the most exciting project going on in the world. Just awesome what humans intend to do these days.

I'm still sort of confused by the lack of foundation digging. Are they driving support rods into the ground or something?

I have no doubt that they know what they are doing. After all this build will be a symbol so any error will be viewed with much criticism around the world. I just really want to know how they are going about building this without the typical foundation seen in other tall buildings.

I'm not doubting that they know what they're doing either, I'm just also curious as to what it is that they're doing.

I guess you have not been following this project from the start:

Piling has been completed more than a year ago.
A hunderd+ amount of piles, each 76 m long as I can remember.

The foundation itself is - as far as info could be destilled from postings here and elsewhere - relatively massive, so without onderground floors or so.

Well it sort of looks underwhelming against some of the holes being dug for those Chinese skyscrapers.

The Houston Architecture Forum had a picture (from Tumbleweed_Tx) of the layout of the piers; they are massive indeed.

Quite interesting. Is this method cheaper, or sturdier, or what?

In (Chinese) cities, every m2 soil is expensive.
So building many underground floors can be worthwile.

In Jeddah (and Dubai) space is less an issue, so only building above ground level is beneficial.

I can not think of another reason, as both methods are technically possible.
