I don't really know anything about building construction/engineering, but this seems like a crazy amount of different types of steel. Even the Pumphouse building has so many kinds for such a small building, don't remember ever noticing so many types of steel on any other recent buildings to go up recently.

Is this all about function or is some presumably going to be exposed, and that's the reason?

Different coatings if it will be exposed or not. And there's also lots of curved pieces in this building. Most buildings that looked curve are made of straight pieces that appear curved. Anything curved is more difficult, hence more costly.

The WAG Inuit Art Centre is changing every day! You can see waves taking shape - inspired by the rolling snow-filled landscape of the north

Looking good.

I find the slogan a bit funny. The world's first and largest. Well ya. If it's the only one, it would also be the smallest, the middlest, the everything. It's the only one. According to the slogan.

Is there another one under construction somewhere that will be smaller?

I hate to say it but this project isn't doing it for me. I wish it was more separated from the original building as opposed to being built so close that it starts looking like an awkward addition. Maybe in the end it will work out but so far I'm not seeing it.

I have always thought the same thing. Stupid banner.

I think when the covering over the sidewalk gets removed it will look more detached from the original building. You’ll be able to see more open space at the ground level where the building curves back inward from the rear fin of the museum. I kind of like how it oddly fits, like how a snow drift should be. Just sort of blown in there.

I agree, i think it will look amazing, that juxtaposition of old and new modern is favorite look. Plus this cant possibly look any worst then the WAG studio that was previously on that site for decades.

^^ I also feel the final building will be very attractive and a striking addition to the area.

A friend of mine in Houston is interested in architecture, both traditional and new/inventive structures. I was just thinking that she could enjoy a trip to Winnipeg in a couple of years to see both the city's collection of nice older buildings as well as contemporary construction like the CMHR, the Diversity Gardens Leaf and the Wag Inuit Art Centre.
