If someone knew how to predict the future, they wouldn't be posting on SSP.

So the answer is no. No one knows what the future holds.

Not likely. As history has shown, NYC is very good at withstanding little hiccups in the global economy. Even larger ones. Capital usually flows into the city anytime some crap goes bad in the world. The Chinese are flooding U.S. real estate markets, so this China instability might be good for projects down the line.

I wouldn't be concerned. Biggest boom in history, and many of the proposals are becoming reality.

What I can tell you for certain is that in the future, the sun will explode, killing everybody on earth and within the solar system (if we get to other planets). All of this that we see will become specks of star dust. All our cities, people, history, erased. A speck of charred carbon forever forgotten.

So while economics can be hard to predict down the line, and as a result, the consequences, our fate as a species on earth is on a time limit and for certain.

Yea he is.

Some people don't like his female humor (although NYC does have some of the finest woman in the land), plus he is super good for NYC updates. Eh, he will be back. Although since he's left, seems like VG isn't posting either. Sucks because they both are great for updates. Still, he has coined the Age of Ramses and the colloquial term for the NYC boom.

Good to see you back Hunser.

Hope your exams went well.

111 Murray should be starting very soon. I went by the site last night, and equipment is in place.

Thanks. I've heard of a possible supertall in Brooklyn, but can't find the thread and/or the adress.

Too bad, let's hope both will be back soon - they are great contributors.
Yeah, everything went well. I should get my Master's in mathematics by the end of next year. Then, I'll be in Germany for a brief time before moving back to NYC.

I hope you're doing some weak comedy routine here. Otherwise your post is completely bizarre.

The building being demolished is a 1960's glass box, not a "magnificent prewar". What are you even talking about?

2 WTC is obviously being built on the site of the former WTC, and isn't replacing any "magnificent prewars". It's universally lauded by all the starchitects at Ground Zero. I'm pretty sure downtown is not "suffering immensely" by having the WTC rebuilt as opposed to leaving it an empty pit.

Nordstrom lost its spire. Will be 1,550 ft. To the parapet, so not a total loss.

By spire tipped you mean crown right? Because in terms of spires, we have plenty already (more so than the 30's.

In terms of beautiful crowns, towers such as 40 Wall, Chrysler, ESB, American International, and Met Life just to name a few.

I'm sure more towers down the line will have awesome crowns like the ones in the 20's and 30's. Flat roofs are kinda boring, but every once in a while we get gems. Modern/futurist crows with elements of pre-war and 21st Century architecture will join the ranks with Steinway, 220 CPS, Vanderbilt, 10 Hudson, 30 Hudson, and ones completed like One57.

I would love to see the type of intricate detail in facades that are present in the pre-war skyscrapers. Things like gargoyles, intricate facade moldings, statues, and all that good stuff, but its expensive as hell.

^Yes sorry, thats what I meant. It really is too bad that its so expensive though. The amount of visual impact a building with a crown and ornamentation has is miles greater than a sinple box. When we finally get our 21st century equivalent of the Chrysler crown I will leap with joy.

472m really is a great height! Meaning those who want to build even taller in the near future have the scratch the 500m mark. I really like how New York is gradually building taller, so the skyline won't have that "Burj Khalifa-effect".

The skyline is getting pretty tall, so many 400m+ towers to the roof:

1. Central Park Tower, 1,550ft (472m)
2. 111 West 57th Street, 1,438ft (438m)
3. One Vanderbilt Place, 1,414ft (431m)
4. 432 Park Avenue, 1,397ft (426m)
5. 1 WTC, 1,368ft (417m)
6. 125 Greenwich Street, 1,356ft (413m)
7. 2 WTC, 1,340ft (408m)

Of course there are many more potential candidates, like the Tishman Spire, 80 South Street, 335 Madison Avenue etc..
