I think this is what is meant by the "Great Unwashed"
Yes, I agree with you on that. Mind you, this very vocal minority of protesters has crawled out from under a big rock to protest about everything and nothing. The student movement backs this sort of stuff also. The funny bit is everybody is pulling for their own little bit of meat. The cops and firefighters are on strike and wear half uniforms of camo pants and regular garb. The firefighters have painted their trucks white in some cases, and stuck stickers on their vehicles like the police do. They are protesting the attempt by government to reduce their incredibly generous and unjust pension fund allocations.
This protest is about fighting the Québec government austerity measures in a jurisdiction that has the highest rate of bureaucracy in North America. The madness of student protesters who fight austerity by striking and interrupting classes at colleges around town is an illustration of how far the entitlement mentality has a foothold here. The student movement has taken on a really sinister tangent that almost spoofs itself in order to get attention on a seriously debilitating fact of life in Québec; high taxation for a myriad departments involved in the most minute particulars of daily life. Imagine having to deal with one of these geezers on the receiving side of a Kafka service counter.
