So they're painting the brick retail building attached to the Dillards? If I recall, that's one of the few ones there constructed of real brick. Or maybe it was just the Dillards that was real?

Only Dillards has real brick.
The paint is related to the repairs they had to do on all of the buildings in "the District". I actually think they look a lot less fake when painted. It will go back to the fake brick look once they're finished.

All the stucco is so fake.
Anybody over 150lbs could easily punch a hole in it.

Petition against Sembler Development on 14th St

Please take a moment to read and sign (if you agree) the online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/SEMBLER/petition.html
against the current design of the proposed Sembler development on 14th St. This is Georgia Tech foundation property that is being sold to Sembler for development of a Home Depot, among other retail in the Westside Crossing. Neither the Georgia Tech Foundation nor Sembler are working with Home Park to have the development fit within Home Park's master plan. A design of the development is on Sembler's website at http://www.sembler.com/current_projects.php?id=305

Also, please forward this to other interested parties.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I've signed, and am forwarding it out.

What's the current status of this project?

Doesn't Sembler have to conform to the Home Park Master Plan, and doesn't the design have to be approved by the Home Park Board?

.....Or does this fall out of their jurisdiction?

I believe it was mentioned a few months ago that this land is already zoned for exactly what Sembler is proposing.... a strip mall. Neighborhood opposition doesn't carry quite as much weight when the developer doesn't need re-zoning approval in order to build. It would be nice if the zoning actually matched the neighborhood master plan.

This is exactly the case. They don't have to rezone it to build a stripmall which is why they're not playing nice with Home Park. Even the GT Foundation has turned a deaf ear on Home Park's concerns about this development.

Well that's just fantastic.
Don't know I mentioned it, but Atlantic Station's not too happy about this development.

NO ONE is happy about this development. If I were a developer, I would at least want some people in the neighborhood to be happy, otherwise it might be tough to sell potential tenants on the site.

This just reinforces my opinion that Sembler is the worst developer in this city....the GT Foundation isn't exactly great, either.

We're all here because we like to discuss architecture and city planning, but no one else really cares. Sure it would be best for all area stakeholders if Sembler were willing to extend the retro-modern themes of AS into their parcel....but to be brutally honest they're only concerned to maximize ROI. They're not even based out of this area. Why would they consider to spend extra money for asthetics beyond basics? It doesn't matter - people from all over NW Atlanta (including AS) are going to flock there anyway to buy crap from the usual schlocky generic outfits.

It is kind of sad that most of the people in Atlanta & Georgia will just basically accept anything chain/generic. I went to NYC last week, and I rarely see much of anything that generic. Ok, maybe a few H&Ms, but that's it.

My friend from NYC was so disappointed with GA, ie strip malls. I took her to Little Five Point, and she asked if this was all of it. I basically said yes.

But then again, it is really hard to impress anyone from NYC. I mean I kinda missed NYC, everything about it except the price. I think this post is mostly on topic. :-)

At least we [still] have a fantastic tree canopy. That's something I miss up here in Chicago.
