it's a shame this wasn't the plan from the start, the entire process in san francisco would have been completely different.

Don't get a big dick, bro... hahaha I doubt she's ever heard of this silly forum.

I was at the one this evening. A number of people who spoke welcome the museum to Chicago, but the biggest hang up for them is the structure being on the lakefront.

A number of people continually mentioned the old Michael Reese Hospital site, but I stated when I spoke was that some of the stipulations for any city getting the museum were grand vistas and proximity to the water, with the MR site doesn't quite offer.

There were a few people, myself included, who spoke in favor of the project.

I was told that they want to go before the plan commission this October. Construction could start mid-2016.

No public funding for construction.
Operates as a museum in the park.
Ground lease by the museum, but the park district will own the land.
Admission fees to operation and maintenance
Establish a construction account
Ongoing endowment $400million

If they build it quick they might be able to hold the premier of episode 9 there, which would be the last Star Wars for a while. It would pull a lot of international attention onto the museum.

Any architecture firm with an interest in their own PR follows what the internet is saying about their work and their clients, including this forum. I know our marketing director does, but that doesn't mean the principals are necessarily up to speed.

as far as tech and real estate are concerned, usually the principals are running in the opposite direction. old slow money.

^ Ahhhh the Chicago way. They will push this through the approvals process, and when the Friends of the Parking Lots lawsuit is laughed out of court for good, I look forward to shovels in the dirt.

I do hope Lucas has some damn good art, though, as this museum will be rubbing elbows with some of Chicago's other top cultural attractions.

My favorite part is that the park district finally held a public hearing yesterday.

Ten months after signing the memorandum of understanding.

^ Well, you know, it would look bad if they didn't hold a courtesy public meeting to let the public know what will in fact be approved at Plan Commission in a couple weeks......

I saw "Friends Of The Parking Lot" changed their lawsuit. Now they are asking the court to allow only the state legislator's to approve it. If that happened it would take another 10 years as they can't get anything done!!! Lucky that the courts will throw it out.

I see the Legacy, BCBS expansion, and Aqua are still under construction in that first rendering.
