This is police headquarters. (Not too far from where I live.) I guess it acts as a deterrent for crime - who would want spend the night here?

Château Nouvel Âge - indoor diving centre, wellness spa and pediatric clinic. All businesses owned by the same family.

OMG the windows on that Gatineau castle.

This might be a whole new style of bad architecture. Castle meets power rangers. The windows look like their helmet designs.

Also reminiscent of Lord Zedd:

Edit: And the backside looks like Bowser's castle from Mario!

Bonus for you: depending on the angle you look at them in the sun, they will actually appear to be pink.

Not too far from there is this church, which is actually a former brasserie (bar/beer hall/tavern):

I don't find that church ugly, but the streetscape gives a hint of the larger ugliness of Gatineau. It doesn't really depend on bad buildings, and in fact we've seen many worse examples elsewhere in this thread. It's more pervasive than that, something you feel as much as see.

You're right that it's not that bad. I just find it very "Gatineau" to have a church that was once a brasserie.

We had that too, and it's actually the focus on an enduring local urban legend.

Hah - I've been to a number of churches turned brewpubs but it's pretty rare to see the opposite happen!

EDIT: see I was beaten to it.

Jeez, that second one makes the Police HQ look like the Chrysler Building! Jesus, downright Edmontonian!

Are there any other city specific slurs in Quebec like coupe Longueuil? If mullets can be named after one city, are there other ugly things that can be named after Gatineau?

More Awful Gatineau

I have stayed here and eaten at the buffet
https://www.google.com/maps/@45.4802...7i13312!8i6656

The Local Clockstrosity
https://www.google.com/maps/@45.4819...7i16384!8i8192

It looks like its wearing a helmet!

Stucco Crap
https://www.google.com/maps/@45.4795...7i13312!8i6656

Mansard Apartment Tower
https://www.google.com/maps/@45.4705...7i16384!8i8192

And of course Place Du Portage. You should see the inside of this beasty!

EDIT: A Google search for "Gatineau Apartments" generates horrifying results.

It would have to involve the government buildings in Hell (hull) like Portage somehow.
