That is if you assume they are all uneducated or not able to be educated. Every city is going to have it's good and bad qualities but the color of the skin isn't really a good argument. At least that's my belief.

It's not a question of the human potential. It's a question of the current status quo.

Those Walton kids look like a bunch of dummies compared to Westminster.

I think the collapse of the housing market and accessible mortgages could slow down the gentrification process. The rise in fuel prices could also have a negative effect on the "back to the city" movement. If employment was concentrated intown it would make sense for people to move in. However, since most of the jobs in Atlanta are in the suburbs (and continuing to trend in that direction), the advantage of moving in is less compelling, in that doing so may well take you further away from work. 40% of workers residing inside the city limits already commute out to the suburbs and many folks will probably prefer to live closer to their jobs.

Well that depends, most jobs are around Alpharetta, Buckhead or the Sandy Springs area.

Buckhead is still part of Atlanta proper..and I think the davntage of moving is huge. I used to live in Woodstock and most of my neighbors drove to downtown Atlanta daily. There was no way I'd drive that 2 years ago...and even my drive to Alpharetta was a factor in leaving Atlanta

It does depend on several factors. I live intown but now have to commute out to the Perimeter. One of my neighbors works in Suwanee, another up off McFarland Road, and another at Lockheed. So living inside the city isn't helping them in terms of transportation. They like living intown for other reasons, but they've all been complaining about the expense of commuting and how long it takes them to get there. Once you start throwing in factors like increased housing costs, higher taxes, school issues, etc., the decision about where to live is less clear cut.

Just for comparisons. SAT scores on the verbal and math. Walton was 10th for the entire state for public schools, not bad, but the private intown schools way out perform.

Walton 1142
Lasiter 1104
Milton 1099
Pope 1098
Westminister 1380
The top 10% at Walton scored 1520. And they have no filter on who they accept.

If I had an average or struggling kid, i might send them to private. i think a high-achiever would do equally well at either school.

certainly Westminster has unlimited resources. sadly, the kids who need it won't be going there.

No, you don't seem to be one of the "statistics". Seriously, I merely said that the darkening of Atlanta will impact the statistics....I didn't say we should remove any law-abiding person.

Um, I don't think we should have a city-wide policy promoting white people over the darker races because of a notion that darker races are bad for the city. I mean wasn't that the policy that made things get this bad in the first place? It is hard to explain how far gone that argument is. This city belongs to black people as much as white people and it does just fine. It isn't even the races that are the problem.

I'm not promoting anyone over anyone else. I merely said that the darkening of Atlanta and America will impact the statistics.

Well considering that Atlanta's average income and education level keeps increasing, I guess we can look forward to a more diverse future. Can't wait. Who knows, you might run into a politically active Jamaican rocket scientist son of a professor and a lawyer and debate him endlessly about politics.

Highest income bracket by nationality: Nigerian-Americans

(oddly, I can now see why I'm both scientifically minded and interested in politics)
