Great update pwright1! I'm guessing that 8th/Fig is still just a hole?

When I looked at apartments there in 2019 there were lots of empty units on that side and they weren't even mentioning them. They were available but the leasing agents were focusing on everywhere but there. I guess that it makes sense as those would be the least desirable with construction coming right outside your balcony.

I thought for a minute it may be stalled but maybe the foundation is just taking awhile.

Hopefully. I was wondering if they don't yet have the necessary permits? I don't walk by often, but the last couple of times I was surprised by how little progress there was over a couple month period.

I assume you're referring to 8th and Fig? Nice.

Can't believe Angel's landing could start next year too, that'd be great, even if it's not 1000+ it'd still basically be tied with AON.

Yeah I'm as bummed it got the haircut as anybody, but once built it'll still basically be the 5th tallest building in California (~tied with the Transamerica Pyramid)

😂 😂 They've been working on this every day, this issue is that the hole is pretty deep.

Full redesign of Onni's Times Mirror proposal by the quality firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz.

My personal take - Much much better. Yes it is basically a watered down version of the Aqua Tower in Chicago, but that is not a bad building at all to be inspired by. Love the angle roofline that should be lit as well. Love that they are keeping the same program with office, apartment and most importantly to me the retail filled paseo.

The curvature is giving slight vibes of the old tower proposal for 8th/Grand (can't remember the name of that project).

Ha ya it does look like the original version of 8th and grand.

This new design is 100 times better than the original.

How anyone was fighting to keep the brown attachment to that beautiful historic LA Times building is beyond me. It was hideous. It just ruined the LA Times bldg.

So I’ll take that Onni is still up for a late 2021 groundbreaking?

This has always been something that’s ‘bothered’ me a bit. I can’t really think of any spots on Bunker Hill that are primed for development, or have something proposed already that would contribute to tapering off the northern end of the skyline. The LA Times development seems to be the only one, but I am doubtful it will make much of an impact given it’s not on the hill. A redevelopment of Omni Hotel to a tower which is 2/3 the height of the Wells Fargo building would do wonders, in my opinion. What about those crappy red, yellow and green low rise buildings along Figueroa? (The Park DTLA)

Also, I would love to see the crown lit up, and obviously more pedestrian activity nearby. Bunker Hill and Civic Center need the same vibe like South Park.
