Also just a side comment but was really hoping that Northshore's south face would be lit in some fashion. It's so dark an unnoticeable at night.
Yeah, I'm really bummed out about it. I was at Butler Park last night, and it's really dark. I'm cool with the W being dark, but Northshore needed some lighting. I'm also hoping they don't skimp on the lighting of the Fairmont. I want to see that glass mechanical screen lit up from inside like the Frost Bank and Colorado Towers are. I gotta say, though, I'm really impressed with the new lighting of 100 Congress. I think it's one of our best lit buildings right now. It perfectly enhances and accents its design.

I was speaking to the GC who is putting up the glass skin and he told me Google will be using the crane to hoist an Air Stream trailer on to one of their patios. He said it was going to be used as a food truck amenity for employees. No exact date when that will happen but he would let me know. That would make for a cool few shots!

Love it! That would make for a good Austin photo.

I love the cut outs because it prevents it from being a completely boring rectangle. But that's the subjective nature of architecture as art.

I'm not opposed to cut-outs in general. I love the placement of these, not the execution. The exposed concrete is hideous.

Well at least the top will be fairly interesting and not just a plateau. Something I didn't expect. Overall it's not horrible but it could have been better. The cutouts help with the boxy rectangle problem and the step back at the top helps too.

I think it's going to be covered with wood, similar to the lobby overhang of 3rd and Colorado

Isn't that also where Google is having an air stream placed? Would look cool against the wood and would be very Austin in my opinion.

If by "looks Austin" you mean "weird" and possibly "bizarre," you've nailed it.

If this was 10 maybe 15 floors higher, I would say this was a really nice building. As is, I still think its nice, its not that exciting, but it will be part of the cluster of height challenged buildings. If Google can prominately display their logo at or near the top, it would make a big positive difference to me.

Better yet, a screen to display whatever animation they have for the "Google" logo on their home page for that particular day.

Can't we say that about almost every building though?

Almost every one would be correct. I can't say that about Hyatt House or Hotel Indigo.

Yes, those could go 10-15 floors shorter...
