now THIS looks a bit like an ugly old mug, well ,still OK,and it should have dominated the pudong skyline today. It must be opened by now. An attraction in shanghai. With SWFC and Jin Mao Tower, they form the skyscraper traiangle. As tallest building in the world apart from the UAE, china must be proud,Very proud indeed. This Shanghai Tower is twisting, because it will reduce wind speed .And this building uses gravity, not fighting them. And this is a vertical city with sky gardens. I think its a beautiful design.

Nice. I was there earlier this year, and expect to be back soon. My office is a few miles south (can see it from there) and look forward to another look.

What did you find tacky about it? Seems like a regular hotel bar to me - unremarkable even.

the year 1950 called, it wants america back... the reason shanghai seems so futuristic is because american cities are becoming so antiquated

Have you been to china?

Ive been several times, and in some sense i agree, but i mostly disagree. This particular tower looks amazing in person, but a lot of the new development in china looks nice from afar but when you get close, it shows that some of the labor is a bit sub-par. And i wonder if over time we'll see some of their buldings have real issues.

For example, the maglev train in shsnghai. It sounds futuristic on paper. But when you ride on it, it appears to be wearing really quickly, the speeds were forced to be reduced to only 180 mph, it doesnt even connect into the central and central airport terminal, and its alresdy really dirty.

So while i agree, the US needs to invest more and shoot for the stars in buildings and infrastructure- im also curious how some of this chinese construction wears in 10 years because some feels a bit quick and cheap to me in person.

Id be curious to hear others thoughts who have traveled to china in person?

Seeing the buildings hiding out in the clouds really does feel like a glimpse into the future. I love how those three complement each other.
