Whenever I drive by this building I can't help but think it looks like something we stole from Miami. I do like it, though.

^ Well, if we're stealing it, we're only stealing it 'back'!

The balcony glass is looking fantastic, particularly on the north side, as I think they have at least 10 floors of it up now......my one remaining concern might be how the top 'mechanical screening'/elevator penthouse level will look. I'd assumed they would continue glazing as close to seamlessly as possible, but now I'm thinking that's not the case and it may be largely 'open'.....we'll see.

I don't really know anything about this project, but I've been watching its progress from the breakroom at my office so I thought I'd share a few pics for those interested.

The building doesn't look very good to me. I think that glass is worse than I ever thought it would look. Not impressed at all. Definitely a letdown

The biggest letdown on this project isn't the glass- I quite like it- but the detailing. The renderings showed the balconies capped by silver I-beams at the east and west ends, a modern nod to some of the beautiful Mies buildings around town. Instead, each balcony is capped by bland mullions. I'm not going to complain about this tower - it's a nice glass and steel tower with (quasi) below grade parking. But, the fact that it was first rendered with sheer glass walls and a modern twist on the subtle exposed structuralism of a Miesian block just makes me imagine what it could've been.

Thanks for the pics btw and welcome!

They also didn't use the standoff-glass balconies I was hoping for. That would have have been slick! Oh well, I'm happy with this project overall so I can't complain.

Looks a bit better in person, IMO.

I dunno why we're calling this filler while we're lavishing praise on Optima.

Neither are filler grade by 21st century Chicago standards IMO. Not sure if that is a stronger comment about the buildings themselves or the last decade of construction here in the city.

I called it filler in the sense it's no major skyline presence. More like a fomerly missing tooth in LSE

So by that measure 99.99% of all buildings in Chicago are filler.

What this building may lack in vertical presence it makes up for in river canyon presence... and is sure as hell more attractive than 'skyline' buildings such as the Museum Park sisters, or the Columbian, or the Elysian or anything in Central Station.

^^^
It's nice to see a building in this city with glass that runs straight down to the street.
