Atlanta continues to be one of nation’s hottest apartment markets, according to Axiometrics Inc.
“From 2011-2014, cumulative annual rent growth has nearly doubled what we saw in the previous cycle: 19.6 percent compared to the 10.8 percent of the 2004-2007 cycle,” the company reported.
Metro Atlanta’s overall occupancy rate was 93.8 percent in January. Class B properties were 94.6 percent occupied and Class A properties were 94.5 percent full in January. However, Class C. only had a 91.1 percent occupancy rate for the month.
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente will plant a $20 million information technology campus in Midtown Atlanta — a project that will create about 900 jobs.
In December 2014, Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported the health care provider and medical insurer was scouting Atlanta buildings for the 150,000 square-foot project. In March 2105, the Chronicle reported Kaiser had zeroed in on Midtown's Pershing Point Plaza.
Job growth looks like it’s back to a pace Atlanta hasn’t seen consistently since the mid-to-late 1990s.
Fueled by growth in professional and business services, including the region’s technology sector, metro Atlanta should add between 90,000 and 100,000 jobs this year.
That prediction comes from Wells Fargo Securities senior economist Mark Vitner, who spoke about the economy today in Atlanta. Wells Fargo gathered several executives from its commercial banking, commercial real estate and insurance divisions for a presentation to Atlanta business leaders.
It says they will still have a general music class (i.e. intro to instruments etc.) so I don't see the big deal.
When I was in elementary school, that's all we had and it was only once a week. I think having a dedicated band or orchestra is probably not needed for that age group. Probably should wait until middle school.

Sometimes you have to travel far from home to have fresh eyes on what you see and experience every day. A recent family trip to Europe was culturally exhilarating, and as an architect I could not stop decoding the urban experience in the different cities we visited and lived in.
In American cities, as in European ones, we are becoming increasingly aware that livable, walkable places and neighborhoods create value and grow value. Design has value. The Midtown Blueprint, BeltLine initiatives, and SPI neighborhood zonings are working to create the scaffold to building the places where people want to be.
Atlanta energy giants Southern Co. and AGL Resources Inc. will merge to create the biggest electric and gas utility in the nation.
The combined utility will have 9 million customers in nine states, eleven regulated electric and natural gas distribution companies and a projected $50 billion regulated rate base. It will operate nearly 200,000 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines and more than 80,000 miles of gas pipelines. Its generating capacity will be nearly 46,000 megawatts.
Georgia Tech and noted Atlanta developer Portman Holdings plan to start construction this year on the High Performance Computing Center, the 700,000 square-foot second phase of the square that will be both an expansion of Tech’s campus and potentially a center for health care information technology and other big data companies.
Does anyone know what happened with the bike share program? I thought it was supposed to go live this year and there have not been any announcements lately. Is it being scrapped or is it just delayed? Thanks in advance!

It's still supposed to happen, but the city is putting zero money towards it. They've picked a vendor, and it's supposed to follow the ABC's bike share plan, but they need a sponsor to pay for it. There's rumors Coca-Cola might fully sponsor it and call it "Dasani Atlanta Bike Share." They're also testing a few types of bikes, including some with electric assist and some that have integrated GPS and locks so there wouldn't be docking stations. But again, there's no funding yet.
