The hotel is confirmed to be a 1 Hotel, and the planned opening is 2026.

I think you're right. Drove by earlier today and the fencing around the tent had that type of branding on it.

I remember when we were waiting for the Fairmont to start and some trailers turned up on site. They turned out to be for a convention and not construction offices.

Coindesk is doing everything in their power to make Consensus as SXSW-like as possible. So -- weird activations in parking lots is well within the scope of what it's going to be happening.

Swung by on my way to the airport. Here's a picture of the branding on the fence for the tent. Sadly not related to 98RR.

I'll give you another sticker if you can find out when the Waterloo Hotel breaks ground.

'Texas-tough, tech-savvy': New downtown luxury hotel shows how brands sell Austin in 2022

https://www.mysanantonio.com/lifesty...y-17224812.php

On Monday, 1 Hotels announced it was building one of its luxury hotels in Austin, set to open in 2026. The announcement from S&H Hotels, the Los Angeles-based company that operates 1 Hotels, successfully completed new-build Austin bingo: it used the phrase "mixed-use," mentioned Austin City Limits, and claimed the 74-story tower in which it will reside will be the largest in Texas upon completion.

Without delving into whether Austin needs a new, enormous downtown luxury hotel amid a housing crisis, or the vagueness of claiming a window into Austin City Limits (the festival, the downtown venue, or the television show?), the release was remarkable for its slurry of Austin-specific buzzwords and phrases. One in particular stands out.

Gaze upon this sentence in awe: "Texas-tough, modern-chic guest rooms feature furnishings that integrate cowboy craftsmanship with the sophisticated tone and tenor of a tech-savvy city."

Does the Austin American Statesman have constant articles about every press release and goings on in San Antonio?

Yea I was gonna say there seems to be a lot of Austin articles that pop up in MySA, many of which seem to belittle or make little swipes at their neighbor to the north.

Honestly I'm not even sure what the point of that article actually is? Why even write an article like that in the first place?

It's like an old buddy of mine from SA who I've known for over 20 years. Loves to find anything negative about Austin and send it to me. It's like why even bother?

I mean the subject is kind of interesting -- interesting hotel brand, tallest tower in TX, continuing Austin-as-boomtown coverage. But yeah it was overwhelmed with snark. Not the best take.

Some trees look to have been torn down and are waiting to be hauled away. I count a dozer, 2 excavators, and a loader.

The statesman has plenty of sub 200 footers in Austin to ignore.
