That'd be really decent by Ottawa's standards

This is a Claridge building. It will look nothing like the drawing.

Is the Claridge District now re-branded as Claridge Onyx?

As per their website, they're advertised as: "Luxury Apartments for Rent in Centretown, Ottawa"

They also mention August 2019 occupancy. Is this now open? Anyone have any updates?

Onyx is at 287 Lisgar. It is open. District is not open and hasn't been marketed yet.

I really don't understand those balconies. It's not even enough space for two people to stand comfortably, let alone even have a chair. Perhaps a single potted plant? Its basically a diving board.

Went for my quarantine walk yesterday and checked out this development. That corner of Metcalfe is getting pretty crowded.

West side has tan bricks accented with shiny black tiles/bricks.

East side has the usual Claridge grey.

Prefer the grey over the tan.

And would you look at all those diving boards! I thought the 'regular' balconies were small on these buildings!

*Claridge: Hold my beer!

The row of balconies in the middle part of the rear building...now THOSE are small. What is that, 3'x4'?

I just realized... there's not even enough space for a patio door! We're going back to 1960's swing door to the balcony? Shall we make it metal with no light?

One side of the tower is tan and the other black? Why not make one tower tan and the other black?

Thanks for the updates k.evans!

Yeah I have a trouble understanding the colour scheme going on... Guess will wait to see final product. And yeah those are extremely small balconies, smaller than the CP towers.. at what point does it no longer make sense to even provide balconies if you can't even put a chair or "bistro" set?

And yes that part of town is getting a lot of the new developments. Those two towers, the one across from SoHo Lisgar, the two TriBeCa towers and now the one at the old Medical Office location... That's a lot of extra people for the neighbourhood.

I can see 25 years from now when it comes time for a $2M balcony repair job, these will just get simply cut off.

Cool to see this amount of density going up, and slowly expanding the skyline south and west...

What skyline? Centretown is a homogeneous block of 27ish story buildings and lot line to lot line towers with ugly canyons in between. I hate the look and feel of Centretown and developments like this don't help.

Although the design and height are meh, I do like how these developments are layering the south side of the skyline. It's an improvement over the wall straight wall of office buildings along Gloucester from the 90s. It's also providing some company to Place Bell, which was a loner one block back at Nepean.
