Very true. We can't wait for this magical time in the future when all these things will be taken care of. We must do it now. This procrastination will only end up costing us more to fix in the future.

Sorry for the poor quality, but I don't have a scanner. This is from today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

If you were around during the Great Blue Bathroom Tile shortage of the 1960's, blame it on the Pima County Legal Services Building here in Tucson, Arizona. I don't want it destroyed as much as I want it reclad.

Goverment Plaza, Mobile, AL. It has a huge wasted space in the middle. It leaks even when it's not raining. It really needs updating. Nobody washes all those windows on the atrium part (huge wasted open space) and it's gross. Insufficient amount of elevators. Also, many people think ol' "Red Eye" is ugly. Pretty much everybody around here (epecially people who work there) wants this thing to be torn down.

^I like the way it looks from here, but there's nothing that sucks like a leaky, dysfunctional building. Fix it or raze it.

Actually I'm one of the few that think the outside is ok. I'd be fine with just making the needed repairs/additions (elevators on the side that needs them, etc.) if that's economically viable. If not, tear her down.

I don't mind how it looks either but can imagine how bad it will look if they don't fix what needs to be fixed. (it's not very old, is it?)

Judging from the Chicago responses, it sounds like you guys are ready for another fire? Long live the 'Third City'!

Don't believe the whole city thinks like a few of these forumers on this thread who live by the IT'S MY WAY OR NO WAY credo.

If that fire hit just a few blocks here and there, definitely. However, 75% of the buildings here are still good to excellent architecture and probably like 15-20% of the buildings are priceless architectural treasures. So if a fire meant damage to any of our Chicago-School, Prarie-School, Usonian, or Modernist treasures, then hell no I don't want a fire!

Sorry but I TOTALLY disagree. I love the Trump tower.

My vote would be for the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center. I understand we need the services of the building, but I think they could have constructed a MUCH better looking building.

^^^ You do realize that is widely considered a revolutionary design right? Its also got an extremely well laid out interior. If you dislike this building its only because you can't accept brutalism as a style or aesthetic and not because it has any flaws. I would be horrified if anyone suggested plans for tearing such an excellent building down. That's probably in my top 10 or 15 favorite buildings in Chicago.
