Bernama June 16, 2021 22:20 pm +08

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is offering to help the Government speed up its vaccination campaign through the use of its trains and stations.

Its chief executive officer, Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, said its rail network of 1,641km — which covers remote areas in northern, southern and eastern Peninsular Malaysia — could benefit the campaign by bringing the vaccine to target groups.

He said there are 104 stations and 73 stops along the routes, and the trains could be used as mobile vaccination units.

Sarawak Metro starts tendering process for Kuching light metro trains
Sarawak Metro is responsible for implementing a two-line rubber-tyred light metro in Kuching.

Quote:
COMPANIES are invited to register by June 28 for a tender to supply a fleet of rubber-tyred hydrogen-powered trains for the two-line light metro under construction in Kuching in the Malaysian province of Sarawak.

Each train will have a minimum crush-load capacity for 300 passengers. The trains will be powered primarily by on-board hydrogen fuel cells with enough storage capacity for one refuelling per day.

The trains will be guided using an optical system and will operate at Grade of Automation 2 (GoA 2) with the potential to upgrade the system to a higher level of automation. The trains will have a minimum service life of 25 years, but preferably 30 years.

Sarawak Metro is responsible for the project which comprises an X-shaped network of two lines consisting of the Samarahan Line, which is due to open in 2025, followed by the Serian Line a year later. Extensions are planned at each end of both lines as well as a third line in the city centre.

Some of the pre-engineering works have already started for our Kuching Urban Transportation System Project, and this includes the soil investigation all along the alignment for both our Samarahan Line and Serian Line.

Seen here is soil investigation work being conducted at Jalan Tun Jugah, recently.

The soil investigation work for our Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project continues on this week along the Kuching-Serian Road, as part of the pre-engineering works that are being carried out now throughout our Samarahan Line and Serian Line alignment.

JB set to be Southern Gateway, says Johor MB
Bernama - August 29, 2021 5:05 PM

Quote:
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) is expected to strengthen its role and position as the state capital becomes a major international land gateway when the Malaysia-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) link railway and the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Tracking (EDT) railway projects are completed soon.

Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad said he believed the two mega projects would be the main contributors to economic recovery efforts in the state, and thereby benefit the people and further develop Johor Bahru.

The two projects would also directly promote the growth of the Ibrahim International Business District (IIBD) in the city, he added.

“The IIBD project, which covers 100 hectares in the middle of Johor Bahru Sentral district, will become ‘The Southern Gateway of Malaysia’ and ‘The next best option to live, work and play in Southeast Asia after Singapore’,” Hasni said at the virtual swearing-in ceremony for the Johor Bahru mayor here today.

“The aim is in line with the strategic location of Johor Bahru city which is next to Singapore, thereby making it the main land gateway to the republic from Malaysia.”

When the IIBD is completed, Johor Bahru will draw more strategic investments from various sectors as the development would have world-class infrastructure, he added.

“These investments will put Johor Bahru on the same standing as Kuala Lumpur, maybe even higher.

“More young people will migrate to the city from outside Johor as opportunities multiply due to the strategic investments,” he said. “I am confident that MBJB will continue to be competent and strive to provide service and support that exceed the expectations of people in the city.”

Earlier, Hasni witnessed the swearing-in of Johor Bahru’s 13th mayor, Mohd Noorazam Osman.

Meanwhile, statistics show that 53,908 households in Johor are in the poor category as they are below the poverty line threshold.

“Therefore, the main challenge for MBJB is to distribute wealth efficiently to narrow the economic gap among income groups in the city. Surely, this needs a more specific and inclusive approach than before,” Hasni said.

Hence, the menteri besar said the state government would focus on the empowerment of vulnerable groups under 12 agendas for welfare and success in the state budget for next year.

Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS)

Dr Wee holds virtual meeting with ACCCIM’s new leadership
By MARTIN CARVALHO Wednesday, 08 Sep 2021 10:08 AM MYT
Quote:
PETALING JAYA: The continued development of people-oriented public transportation projects will help bring a myriad of economic benefits to the nation, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister cited projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Circle Line (MRT3) and the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) as crucial as part of economic recovery efforts as Covid-19 will become endemic in the country.

"I am of the view that the community also has to be ready to live with Covid-19 in the future as the pandemic has changed our daily lives, the various economic eco-system and development trends.

"As such, we will continue monitoring the development of the market, implement investors friendly policies including assisting in boosting and the recovery of local industry," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sept 8).

Dr Wee posted his thoughts on the nation's future direction after holding a virtual meeting with the new leadership of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) on Tuesday (Sept 7) night.

At the same time, he said that projects such as the ECRL, MRT3 and RTS must be fully developed to allow them to bring various economic benefits for the nation.

On his meeting with the new ACCCIM leadership, he said discussions focused on the upcoming Budget 2022 among others.

Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said that ACCCIM had also raised several proposals for the government to consider.

"ACCCIM proposed that the government gives attention not only to the National Recovery Plan but also on improving the SOP in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

He added that the leaders of the business community also urged the government to be more transparent and provide the relevant statistics with regard to the pandemic.

Dr Wee said that the proposals also included improving the national healthcare system while strengthening the nation's capacity to deal with the pandemic.

He said that ACCCIM had also proposed several measures such as various subsidies and aid, tax relief and exemption to help ease the burden of the rakyat and industries.

Present at the virtual meeting were ACCCIM president Datuk Low Kian Chuan, honorary president Tan Sri William Cheng, deputy president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, secretary-general Datuk Tan Tian Meng and treasurer Koong Lin Loong.

Low is also president of National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) while Ng is his deputy president.
