The thing about these towers that is striking is how many people actually live in them. Barely any in the sense of units versus height relationship. You would think One57 would have many many units and in itself is like a small town compared to some of the 600 unit or more towers going up which are 500-600ft, but it isn't. Literally these are reserved for the uber rich. Rich doesn't cut it. You got to be using money as tissues and toilet paper rich.

Thought-provoking article from Justin Davidson at NY Mag on the new residential supertalls. I expect it'll go over like a fart in church here at SSP, but I'm inclined to agree to an extent. These aren't temples of commerce like the Woolworth, Chrysler or Empire State Building. They're subdivisions in the sky with so-so architecture at huge scale. It's cool that the skyline has a few more peaks, but I hope it doesn't get out of hand.

Those matte panels at the top of the tower really detract from the look of the building.

Take a close look at LFonseca34's pic two posts up and say hello to a new addition.

But it is a relief to see One57's peak filled out. I find it hard to believe that no one yet has commented on how well this compliments Citi's 45° slope. Next on the wait list is the beacon facing the Park and a look at whether the facade treatment affects the night views of the tower as more occupants come in.

Then it's Come On, T.V. and Get the Lead Out 225W!

I commented on how the slope complemented Citi a long time ago.

Yes, if it's permanent it's very bad planning.
