well ATLksuGUY . . . thanks for the feedback . .
I love Christopher Walken and I love being weird . .
As regards to this writing style . . (dots and unusual spacing) . .
It helps me think and get clarity . . & to be better understood (I think) . .

It's a visual cadence thing . . and the comma key is broken on my keyboard.
This forum seems a perfect venue of expression . .
for a dude with a passion for buildings - words - New York . .

I like when posts have unique perspective . . .
and thinkers aren't afraid to express themselves as best they can.
I'm sure you'll agree it's fun to write how and what you feel . . .
and see everybody else's wild (sometimes deranged) insights . . .
about these big things that are everywhere around us everyday.

30 Hudson and One Vanderbilt seem to have similar vibes.
They'll both be magnificent substantial additions to the skyline.

Actually, I only ever get through the first couple lines of your posts before I go cross eyed and give up.

Anyway, excited to start seeing some pics of this one once it gains some vertical height. (Not that the prep work isn't cool too.)

The "prep work" is rather boring for me.
What's exciting are the fantastic renders and the active dialog amongst skyscraper fans.

Even more interesting to read from others who have never been to New York.
Everyone's opinions are valued highly.

I'm the opposite. I'd take actual shots of construction over bickering and guesswork any day! But I appreciate that we get some of both. Particularly relating to the "prep work", I do like seeing shots of everything that will be covered up with this site. It's pretty awesome that this relatively vast train yard will soon be underground, covered by some of the taller buildings in the city.

The Price of Thomas Heatherwick’s Imagination

There's more in link:
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/08/02..._r=0&referrer=

Quote:
His latest project for the Hudson Yards on the Far West Side of Manhattan may become a new city landmark; for now it remains shrouded in secrecy. Stephen M. Ross, chairman of Related Companies, a Hudson Yards developer, compared it to the Eiffel Tower in Fortune magazine two years ago, but one person who saw the design at that time described a concept much more grandiose than the developers’ original idea for a sculpture on a plaza fronting Hudson Yards’ vertical mall. Mr. Heatherwick envisioned a “vessel” that could occupy a large part of the plaza, shot through with dozens of stairways. Shaped like a chalice, it would rise higher than the adjacent, cavernous Culture Shed, the 100-foot-high international arts center also planned for Hudson Yards. Related and the co-developer, Oxford Properties, refuse to discuss Mr. Heatherwick’s design.

If it has not been trimmed back, Mr. Heatherwick’s vessel may prove to be an extraordinary work of public art — or some may take it as an overscaled theme-park attraction that litters yet another public space. Mr. Heatherwick offered no details, at the request of his clients, promising only “something that engages the city, not something you just stand back and look at.”

Because the developers bought the rights to build over the West Side rail yards, Mr. Heatherwick’s work, said to be in construction, does not require public review.

I hate to sound cynical, but I envision something idiotic, like Kapoor's ultra-retarded sculpture for the London Olympics park.

Anything that elevates the visitor to the extent that we'll be looking down from above, is alright in my book.

NIKOLAI FEDAK
JULY 31, 2015

Quote:
We also have the first rendering for 30 Hudson Yards’ entryway. The building will open onto the corner of 33rd Street and Tenth Avenue, and its lower floors will be mostly encased in stone, contrasting sharply with its shorter sibling, though 10 Hudson Yards’ location directly on the High Line helps explain the difference.

30 Hudson Yards will be especially visible when viewed from the west, and we also have a new look at the tower from that perspective. It will eventually be joined by several other supertalls immediately to the left in the above frame, so while it will certainly be prominent, it won’t stay lonely for long

Jaw Dropping. Its ridiculous

...

Ridiculously good! I'd say next to Steinway, this is the 2nd best tower design wise rising.

This compensates for the loss of the Foster design for WTC2. Its the closest thing to that beauty, and this tower is just that, a masterpiece. So all is well.

Also, a mod should change the title as: NEW YORK | 30 Hudson Yards (North Tower) | 1,296 FT | 90 FLOORS

Height boost.

I thought you loved the BIG design?

This tower and it's little sibling that compliments it is absolutely stunning, but I'm even more excited about the plaza, It'll become iconic the second it's built, I can't wait.

Maybe the land value on the riverfront of New Jersey will go up even more because of the incredible views.

^^^

I like the BIG design but if I had to choose, Foster would be the one. I've come to acceptance with it if Ingels design actually happens (Pending News Corp). No sense in being negative since it will most likely happen plus it grew on me, pretty quickly. You might be thinking of other users who glorify WTC2 too much.

But anyways, North One, this is a great time.

Great indeed when you see height changes in the positive!

I'm starting 2 have my doubts about the design of this project. Im getting the feeling that theses towers (30 & 10 anyway) don't belong in Manhattan. They wood b perfect 4 a place like Doha or Kuwait City. Im just not sure. The funny thing is I didn't feel this way about the new WTC.

The obnoxious/incongruous/non-contextual quality of these towers will be mitigated by the later phases of Hudson Yards. Hopefully the residential component will take a page from Battery Park City.
