Looks like a metal.

^ The dusky texture reminds of some sort of polished concrete (that looks nice too), but you must be getting it right, it has to be metal, seeing the apparent thinness of a panel.

Needless to say, finishing is going to be super neat. You'd just never expect anything sloppy to such a project over such a location.

We're happy at the architect, huh. He's deserving of a signature tower over there.

She may not be the tallest, but she's a beauty...

I completely agree. As good as it gets.

I would put it up there with Eiffel Tower. Eiffel has such perfect symmetry and architectural function it's kind of hard to compare. But I love the color of this. Maybe cause I grew up in the 80s/ 90s and remember the first Batman movie and this looks straight out of that. I'd say that Eiffel Tower and this are at the top in the world IMO.

I have a feeling this will win the CTBUH skyscraper of the year award when its finished or close to being finished. Kinda how Ingels Pyramid (aka VIA 57) won the award. recently.

It's beautiful, but I'll never get over the height cut.

This will be great, but just won't be tall enough to truly stand out in the skyline. I'll always be angry for the damn NIMBYs and what could have been.

Patience is right! I remember you posting the first blurb.....9 years ago.
Just shows what a monolithic undertaking it is to get these beasts above the ground.

This one already has quite a history and it's just now rising. Design phase wooing. Decapitated. Financial crisis and now, finally....

Here's to the ride.

10 years is usually the average time frame which includes soft + hard costs for super talls. I do say "average" if we look at some case studies. Sometimes we will hear news about a super tall, and 2 or so years later, it starts construction, but there's a lot that goes into it. Before a tower is revealed, it has to be designed, engineered, the parcels have to be bought, environmental studies, deals have to be made, sometimes legal issues, and so on. But 8 to 10 years is about right. Just look at this tower, 10/30 Hudson, WTC 1 and 3, and even the BOA tower. Shanghai Tower for example took something like 12 years from inception to completion. Many of the Miami super talls proposed have been talked about since 2008, and if they start u/c in 2017, we could be looking at a 11-12 year time frame (soft + hard costs).

Good news is that there are other super talls in the pipeline as we speak. Ones who have yet to be revealed, so we may be suprised 6 months from now as the new year starts off, and developers push for that Q3 construction/demo start date. Which is ideal.

Just a heads up, but don't forget 45 Broad, which looks like something should happen Q4 of this year. So soon!!!

I'm a symmetry guy at heart, which is why The Empire State Building will always be my favorite, but this is beautiful.

She does. I have to say though, I do find this version to be a little better. But Nouvel wasn't given the chance to refine the taller version - it was still in design when they chopped the head off. Maybe he will get to do something Downtown or in Brooklyn. In the meantime, 111 W. 57th takes away some of the sting of not getting a taller 53W53.

Yes, I agree the the more refined top especially is better than the original. Hopefully this will -even at a modest 1050'- be reasonably visible in the coming sea of towers that significantly exceed that height.
