Antarctica? All of the ice? Not for thousands, perhaps millions of years my son. Likely never in millions of years. We could go threw several cycles of Ice Ages first.

Its an entire continent that has a mean solid ice depth greater than 2.2 kilometers for the entire mass of solid ice in the center of the south pole.

In the thickest parts is several miles deep.

Not even the most over the top wild claims predict anything close to all Antarctic ice melting

If that happens it doesn’t matter because we will all soon be dead as ecosystems the world over collapse and everything goes extinct while the last few surviving humans slowly run out of oxygen under an ever thickening toxic atmosphere

most people dont think we are going through a ice age. it gets hot then cold. its not the polution, that makes it worse though. its natural, volcanos and earthquakes are happening more. its the sun doing stuff and our planet is doing whatever. i dont know much about this stuff, i just listen to smart people.

Basically every scientist says humans are causing climate change. Only the corporate shills say otherwise...including via bots and viral marketing. And of course they sucker some people.

Are you implying there is not money to be made from climate change AND irrational/over the top fear of climate change?

Because there is, lots. There is as much climate change alarmism for profit in buisness and politics as theirs is in anti-climate change. Don’t fool yourself

In fact there is much much more money to be made in preparing for climate change because it is coming and something as simple as lifting structures on or near beaches or more complicated things like improving infrastructure, building clean energy, conserving resources, etc... are much more profitable businesses ventures than being a human induced climate change denier *Unless you are a politician in the US*.

If preparing was in our DNA, sure. But for now, the big money is on protecting the status quo....oil, sprawl, cars...basically the stuff much of our country spends half their money on.

I don't think that it's that the midwest is the "real" america, but rather that Chicago happens to have a little bit of a lot of parts of America in it. It has a reasonably large immigrant population, but also has a lot of long-time residents, has a dense downtown, but also has a spread-out suburban feel in parts. I'm not sure that the adage holds as true as it may have 50 years ago, but I do think that Chicago is a mixture of many places around the country.

You don’t seem to be passing the Turing test.

Fredrick Hayek had a great saying, that I will paraphrase:

Conservatives deny something is happening. Liberals go way overboard with their solutions.

Why do we need a new city? We got plenty of inland cities not near the ocean, whats wrong with just improving them?

you can make a car city into a city where theres barly any cars. if we made a city like that then other counties would and we would be helping the world.

its make more sense then building a wall. wish the government wasnt always in the way. we wouldnt need to drill for oil, it would be a different world.

I wouldn't say that is accurate, for example the people defending US coal I think have a major economic incentive, especially when US coal is hardly a major factor in global warming compared to China.

And lifting homes near the beach for decades or longer away climate change sea level rise is very much making money off of alarmism, same thing with buying terribly inefficient solar panels, they've gotten better but they are hardly a dent in any towns energy needs until they become much more efficient.

or the floated "carbon Credit" concept? Buying away your climate indulgences.

My point is there is money to be made all over to do both the fear mongering and the denying and some of it is just nefarious for making a quick buck and some of it is logical for people trying to save their businesses.

I concede that it would be exploitative to elevate structures for fear of ocean level rise that is decades off, but, storm surges are a thing and get more severe as the storms get more severe.

Solar power isn't limited to, as you say, inefficient solar panels. Even so, enough can be installed to make an impact on municipal power because they can be installed in places that traditional energy sources can't be. so a city can be blanketed in solar panels which would make a tremendous impact. Plus, it has the advantage of being passive generation, once installed it only requires slight maintenance versus bringing in train loads of coal or in cases where a municipality isn't served by a pipeline, train loads of gas and oil. Additionally, wave energy (although very minor) and wind energy also exists and are also passive and cleaner.

I don't think we really disagree though. I may be wrong about that.

Here are the latest US Census Demographic Estimates as of July 1, 2017 for the United States (all 50 States & D.C.) as a whole and individual States.

United States - Total - % - Growth Period Apr. 2010-Jul 2017
White alone: 249,619,493 76.6% (+7,682,432)
Black or African American alone: 43,499,874 13.4% (+3,249,239)
American Indian and Alaska Native alone: 4,104,295 1.3% (+364,789)
Asian alone: 18,989,059 5.8% (+3,829,543)
Pacific Islander alone: 785,471 0.2% (+110,846)
Hispanic or Latino (of any race): 58,946,729 18.1% (+8,469,135)
Two or More Races (Mixed Races): 8,720,986 2.7% (+1,736,791)
Total Population: 325,719,178 (+16,973,640)

**Some interesting observations:

1. The U.S. appears to have the 2nd largest Hispanic or Latino Population in the World, only behind Mexico & is larger than the population of South Africa & may surpass the population of Italy in the near future.
2. The Asian alone population (not including part-Asian) is larger than countries like Chile, Kazakhstan, The Netherlands & would rank around #61 in the world (if they formed their own). Watch out Australia.
3. The Black or African American alone population is larger than there are people in all of Canada, Poland, Morocco and Uganda.
4. I think that only Papua New Guinea has a larger Pacific Islander alone population than the U.S. but it could be a toss-up between the U.S. & New Zealand for 2nd place. I think people that are at least part-Pacific Islander (including Maori) make up just slightly over 1 million in NZ & in the U.S. it was over 1.5 million a year ago.

Race Alone or in Combination (including Mixed Races)
White: 257,352,321
Black or African American: 47,411,470
American Indian and Alaska Native: 6,795,785
Asian: 22,183,118
Pacific Islander: 1,562,988

States & D.C. ranked by Racial or Ethnic Group *I have highlighted Hispanic or Latino because they can be of any Race and is included in each category (e.g., Hispanic White is included in the total White Population).
*I'm not quite sure where "Some Other Race (or Ethnic Group)" is.

***Please also keep in mind that in the U.S. ethnic groups like Arab, Maghreb, Israeli, West Asian (e.g., Armenian, Assyrian, Abkhaz, Ossetian, Georgian), Turk (e.g., Turkish, Uzbek, Kazakh, Azeri) & Persian/Iranian peoples (e.g., Iranian, Afghan, Tajik, Kurd) are usually lumped in with the Racial Category White.***
