I just want to point out that while the Blues Jays were best known for their huge number of home runs, they also had the highest on base percentage in the majors by far, well ahead of second-place Detroit .340 to .328. They also had the highest slugging percentage in the majors by an even greater margin, ahead of second-place Houston .457 to .437.

The Blue Jays simply had the best offence in the majors in 2015, and no other team was even close. They also had an above-average pitching staff, with a season ERA of 3.80, good for 5th spot in the AL (league ERA of 4.01).

What killed the Blue Jays in the ALCS was sheer bad luck. It did not help that they were pressing too hard, trying to hit a home run every at-bat, instead of simply trying to get on base and letting the runs come. The abysmal ball-strike calling by the umpires did not help either.

Yep, people tend to oversimplify the Jays' supposed offensive deficiencies. As you point out, this team had a very well-rounded offense: lots of power (1st in hr and 2b); lots of walks; lots of productive abs. It was the best in baseball. Full stop.

I will say, however, that there were some maddening moments in the playoffs where the offense did not come through. Instances where a lead off double was left stranded at 2b, for example. And herein lies the issue for me. Yes, with guys like Donaldson, Bautista et al, you have to let them 'swing away.' They're just that good. So over 162, the manager should just let them do their thing. However, in those situations where you MUST get the runner over, well, then I wonder whether the philosophy shouldn't change somewhat.

Those missed opportunities were tough to watch and the outcome would have been different if they'd managed to push a couple more runs across...

Jose Bautista's epic bat flip will be immortalized on a Topps baseball card
http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/02/03/...-on-topps-card
Back in October, Jose Bautista came as close as humanly possible to stopping the Earth's rotation with an emphatic bat flip that punctuated a Blue Jays comeback in Game 5 of the ALDS:

That footage is the most-watched Vine in @MLB history ... and now it's an integral part of your baseball card collection, because the moment has realized its destiny as a card in the new Topps set:

Also just 26 days until Spring Training.

And gotta love this, a large turnout from the team hung out together to watch the Superbowl at a Onesie Party Bautista hosted. The thing I love about this is how well this team gels on and off the field. I'm looking for another run for big prize this year.

Very smart of them to hide the hookers in another room and remove the blow from the tables.

Shouldn't this thread be the Toronto section? The Raptors thread was moved to the Toronto section, so this should be too. This thread is just about Toronto, it has nothing to do with the rest of Canada.

Shuddup... threads that go to the Toronto section die. It can go weeks before any posts in there.

Not surprising at all.

I think last seasons performance will result in close to a bump of about 10k in average attendance this year.

At least until their on-field performance doesn't meet the heightened expectations.

Perhaps if Canada had another team, anyway Montreal is en route to get a team back and people across the country support the Jays so this is the perfect place for this thread. To say this has nothing to do with the rest of Canada is complete B.S.

No, but this should have been labeled a 'baseball' thread rather than a 'MLB' thread. That way it would have been more inclusive and we could have discussed the Goldeye's, the national teams, etc.

Not for the whole season apparently...

'Gibbons says they will monitor Sanchez's innings. "He won't be in rotation the entire season". He won't go any deeper into plan.'

We're going to have a tough year. Too bad we have the best player in baseball with no support around him at all.

If the rotation stays healthy, I think we can contend for at least a wild card.

But yeah it sucks seeing Trouts talent being wasted.
