Sky Bridge Installation Begins at SHoP's 626 First Avenue

Quote:
The 48- and 41-storey shifting towers slope towards one another in their midsections, allowing for a large sky bridge connection. Inside the bridge, a lap pool and lounging areas will be offered to the residents of the 800-unit luxury rental development. On a recent trip to the site, a contributor captured the first sign of steel trusses that are beginning to form the exterior frame of the bridge.

Taken by me.

We can see this development to the right. The two melting towers.

I really wish JDS bought the entire Con Ed site from Solow, it's not like Solow's gonna do anything with it. But JDS gets it done and right and we need active developers like them and not stagnant ones like Solow.

Solow has built far more in Manhattan than JDS, and have already filed permits for the Con Ed site. They're using Richard Meier as architect and building condos, not rentals.

Solow has built towers all over the East Side. They just finished a 43 floor tower at 60th & York maybe a year or two ago.

I thought the new building he filed for was on the site of an adjacent parking lot. As for the main Con Ed plant site, nothing seems to be happening there. I just hate seeing huge vacant lots in prime areas of Manhattan. In nearby Stamford, we have had a really huge vacant pit next to our mall for over 30 years and it's referred to as the "hole in the ground" but I believe it might actually be filled in soon with several short-rise apartment buildings.

It's a new NYU Medical Center building.

NYU Medical is building three new buildings on its main campus. Two are u/c (both shown) and a third is about to follow.

Not sure if we've seen this one already, but I love it...

Two questions. 1. Is this building covered in copper? 2. And if that is so, is it being treated with anything to prevent it from turning that aquamarine color? Would be much obliged for the answers!

1) It has a copper cladding or a thin layer of copper outside. The idea of the type of material was for it to reflect light. A light skin essentially along with a mixture of glass.

2) There should be an an additive to the layer to prevent any oxidation. The developers wouldn't want a tower such as this to look like rubbish. Most of it is glass as well. I doubt the thin layer is 100% copper as that would raise the price dramatically.
