Does anyone know what the large angled thing is that they've placed on the east side of the current highest floor? (see Salesforce Tower construction cam)

Update: It looks like it was a few pieces of steel that they lowered back down this afternoon.

the four foundry square buildings make me grind my teeth, like the dead-hand shot of the 1990s. they belong in winnipeg or, at best, west hollywood. nice photo though. damn, when this the tbt is done and these towers are all up, i guess in 5-7, it'll be something to wander around there.

While the whole "outdoor room" concept at Foundry Square never really panned out in my opinion, I can live with their heights. If they had been taller (especially the north and west buildings), then the rooftop park on the Transbay Center would have been in shadows for much of the day. I'm much more bothered by the heights of the numerous 400-500-foot towers, many along Mission Street, that were built in the last two decades.

Movin' on up - two more levels of core installed today.

This picture is from 1/27, but it offers a slightly different perspective:

I apologize if this one has been posted before, but I thought it looked cool:

Why do they keep advertising and promoting this as 70 stories when it isn't true?

By my count, the two floors currently under construction take us three stories into the mid-rise section of the building. As crews wrap these levels around the core this week, the structure has surpassed 300 feet, with 14 floors remaining to reach the break between commercial and residential portions of the tower.

I didn't realize the glass panels would have that "scale of the dragon" effect. Subtle way to add texture and differentiate it from flat glass towers. I wonder if that was purely an aesthetic design choice, or one that's also rooted in some practical concern, like reducing solar/heat gain due to the position of the tower.

From today (2/10) - the crane has a stylin' new jacket for the chilly winter weather, and crews are wrapping up the 21st floor (by my count), soon to start another two levels.

Another day, another two levels of core installed! I am anticipating the next crane jump, which should start to make 181 visible from many vantage points across the City.

I just noticed the pillar extending all the way up about 15' from the edge of the building on the side facing the terminal.. what's that all about?? Didn't see that in the renderings, it looked like the diagonal bracing extended all the way to the building's edges without any interruption.

remember 181 is shaped like an "L". That's part of the L that tappers off towards the top.

I see, come to think of it, I've never seen a rendering of the side facing the terminal/ park. Looks like that side is going to look quite a bit different from the typical shape and outline of the building that I was expecting.
