Truly a different megapole

İstanbul,on the continents of both Europe and Asia holds currently about 13,7 million people in its city limits.By far the one of the largest in the world, enjoys a great history of about 3000 years with Byzantium,Roman and Ottoman empires. With its setting, its strategic imporance and its offering of at least a week to see it all,is one of the unique megacities in the world that one must see.I attach some pics.

There is a separate section for these called "Found City Photos." I'll move them there for you.

Istanbul looks pretty cool from the air!

PS: You must credit the photographer too.

No mate, snow is not rare at all!Remember İstanbul is in the north and although it borders with the Black sea and local Marmara sea,it gets heavy snow falls every winter.

We get here 3-5 times of snow fall, each one lasting 3-5 days.We get snow every winter, and in some years we get half a meter in the city(in 1987 we had more than a meter in the city)

İstanbul is a place where you get the four seasons properly like the rest of the country.

I do have snowy İstanbul pics and if required,I will post them.

Best regards,
Timur

İstanbul is such a diverse city. When you drive or walk(walking may kill you) you will see that ,in a part, you are in London,Paris,or in another part,Barcelona. Some parts you may think you are in Cairo, and some parts, you think you are in Rio .The description goes on forever...

Now,also Asian part is quite interesting. Some 5 million or may be more live there.Actually,İstanbul was first founded on the asian side,on the shores of ''Kadıkoy'' which was used to be called''Chalcedon'' meaning ''the country of the blind''.On the other hand, there is the ancient ''Uskudar'' historically called''Scutari''.Kadıkoy borough has some 600.000 people and its famous ''Bagdad avenue'' is one of the most important within the city.Actually,it is an avenue of 8 kms(5 miles)but most of its activity is within 3-4 kms with many bars, cafes, expensive shops.İt is also home to various celebrations like independance day,Fenerbahce team ,etc.

İt is a very local area compared to European side where it is very cosmopolitan.

I add some pics of this place.

Great stuff - thanks for expanding my mind a bit more.

Chic in this context means up to date, stylish, cosmopolitan.

Love the snowy mosque
