Usually "approval" on SSP means a land use permit. It has that.

Actually the first part isn't necessarily true... "approval" often means a preliminary judgement that it can get a land use permit, which must still be followed by an appeal period and other paperwork and fees to get the actual permit.

It also has a building permit.

As for work onsite, that's not yet evident.

July start for Daniels at 5th & Columbia?
By JOURNAL STAFF
http://www.djc.com/news/re/12064126.html

A new report from real estate brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle says Daniels Real Estate wants to start construction on the Fifth and Columbia tower in July. The 44-story tower will have 528,000 square feet of office space and 184 hotel rooms.

Kevin Daniels of Daniels Development said he would like to start work in July — or sooner — but his financial partners want to see more activity by tenants other than Amazon.com.

This schedule you posted is already behind... Shoring and excavation was to commence October 2013. Unless there is something I do not know.

Fifth & Columbia HIgh-Rise in Seattle

Note: This video is pretty neat. It shows the rise of the Seattle skyline based on the year and certain skyscrapers. From the 1960's to now, and 2016. Amazing the change. Make full screen!!!

The folks behind the Fifth & Columbia Tower, which will eventually become one of Seattle's ten tallest structures, put together this super-cool video showcasing how the Emerald City got its skyline as well as how their 43-story office/hotel complex will fit into it once completed in 2016.

I know it's not enough to move this thread to the U/C section, but drilling begins tomorrow. And that is certainly progress in my book.

I keep meaning to get by this one. Has anyone been by there since the June announcement? It's been almost 4 weeks.

Boots on the ground

When I went to work this morning there were a couple of trucks on site and a construction shack.

The site is tiny. Shows how significant the actual counter-levering will be.

Of the 10 major (440'+) highrises that are at least in demo, four are basically 1/3 acre. This one is slighly larger at 16,162 sf. I love that...it's possible only with a low parking ratio, and indicative of a city that's getting a lot denser. (This one apparently has 290 spaces...about one for every 12-15 workers or hotel rooms. I don't know whether that includes the spaces to belong to the adjacent Rainier Club.)
