I Think it is perfect poetry that the folks who live in that building have such a great location. Good Karma reminders for the rest of us living downtown !
It's a great mix for the area. Keeps it humble. I ride past there all the time, there is rarely street level activity around the building, much less a homeless population.
Now there is homeless activity from under the bridges nearby over the creek, but that has nothing to do with that tower.

467 feet eh? That would make it the 4th tallest building in Austin behind the Austonian, Frost, and 360 if it were to be build in a day (since other projects would overtake it in the future).

Maybe 5th tallest. I think the W would still be slightly taller.

Regardless, I LOVE to see this be built! Well with the Fairmont and Waller Creek sites being so close, this part of dt could see some good density.

Correct, The W will be 11ft. taller than 99 Trinity tower.

I'm guessing Lakeside is safe if the city owns it. I don't see a majority of the city council ever voting to kick disabled old people out of their homes. Although I can envision a land swap with a developer that would include moving the residents to a new place.

HACA (despite the name) is independent of the City of Austin. It has a separate Board of Directors from Council, and the City does not have any ownership.

So is the height of 467 feet not from street level to the tip? I'm assuming that's the case. So it'll barely be taller than the Ashton I'm assuming.

467ft. will be the official height of 99 Trinity Tower. This is measured by street to tip.

Good info. I would think this makes the future slightly less secure for the residents.

Why on earth would anyone ever speculate about moving affordable housing out of downtown Austin?

Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) may not be directly owned by the city, but it is closely linked to the city's public housing policies and operates as a surrogate agency to carry out those policies. The highrise next to the Four Seasons has served a special needs population since it was built in 1968. I can't imagine forcing people out of that building in order to build more luxury housing downtown. I think it just bothers some people that a few of the poor and disabled in our community are able to have a home with a view. In my opinion, they got there first when nobody thought building luxury highrises downtown was even on the horizon.

Nobody is speculating in the context of encouraging it - just the possibility of whether or not it could happen. It's no different than the gentrification of the poor areas of east Austin, Riverside, South Lake Shore, etc.

Jude Galligan over at DAB posted about the tower in the roundup the other day. I checked the COA website and it looks like it's meandering its way through the permit process, but it does appear further along in that respect than a few other projects I've seen that were announced before this one so I'd say it looks pretty good.

This may be the next big project to get started (depending on what happens with the Fairmont of course.) The press release for this project last November said "financing was lined up" and that construction should start in early 2014. It looks like they are waiting for the final city approvals. The latest filings for both the Site Plan and the demolition permits are awaiting updates with the last activity dated 03/21.

Yep, looks like they've just got to clear a few more comments with the city regarding the master report, all of which seem exceedingly boring. If I had to guess I'd give it a late May-early June groundbreaking.

But if financing is in place then that's a good sign.

I'll be honest I want this one built and I'm a bit impatient

I want this and the Fairmont built more than any of the proposed towers because they will connect the Rainy and CBD skylines. They will also generate more street level activity in the area. Waller Park Place would be icing on the cake at this point.

Just did a service call for the developer. Saw a render from a different angle - beautiful IMO and doesn't disappoint. The render from the paper is a bad angle. He says they just secured financing and groundbreaking is imminent. I'm not in the business and he seemed genuinely excited so I have no reason to doubt him.
