question:
I was going to include a Sanborn map of this area, ...but LAPL only has 2 pages of the hundreds of pages.
Do I have to have a library card to access the complete Sanborn maps or am I simply looking in the wrong place?

Yeah, you need a lieberry card.

From the LAPL homepage, select "Research and Homework" at upper right, then go to S for Sanborn Maps.

This 1921 Baist Map seems to show the area of your photo better than the Sanborns do. Los Angeles Street runs left to right across the top; San Pedro Street comes in from the left below Los Angeles Street and ends at Aliso. I believe we see the Percival Iron Company at the right edge of the photo:

Several months ago I posted this view of the Tuberculosis Unit At County Hospital, ca. May 5, 1939.

In response, HossC posted the map below.

The tuberculosis building is the purple building with the number 1 on it.

Someone posted an anecdote about being a young lad who delivered the newspaper to the Hollywood Canteen and wrote about coming to collect the weekly or monthly bill for it. I have spent a long time looking for that anecdote again and am having no luck. Does anyone remember it?

I've searched Hollywood Canteen, canteen, Cahuenga, Cole, newspaper, delivery, collection, anecdote, and a few other words to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions?

When I first found the picture above I tried to find Elysian Drive, but drew a blank. Then I had a look around the Mt Washington and discovered Elyria Drive.

After I posted these pictures the other day, Flyingwedge PMed me with some follow-up infomation from the 1914 CD. It clearly shows two people called Foote living on Elysian (and Eylsian [sic]) Drive. There were no entries for "Hoote".

After seeing the name "Elysian Drive" again, I began to wonder if the original caption had been correct. Luckily, the area in question appears on the Baist maps, and in 1914 the street was indeed called Elysian Drive. By 1921, it had changed to Elyria Drive - the name which is still in use today.

The 1942 CD lists a branch of the Zinke Re-Bottoming Shoe Co Inc at 710 South Hill Street, so I'd say that 706 South Hill Street is correct for the Cutts Building. I found this 1935 image which names the structure in the center as "the Cutts Building (formerly Sun Building)". Unfortunately, unlike most USC images, this one isn't very hi-res - in fact, this is at 100% zoom.

I also found this larger picture from 1928 when it was still the Sun Building. The close-up below shows the canopy at the entrance and Zinke's a couple of doors away. The big clock on the jewelers is still visible in the 1935 image above, but had obviously gone by 1942.

My question:
Is this tunnel still there. If so, where is it?
...if it is still there, does the new Metro Expo Line use it?

Here's the ivy-covered underpass. There's also a similar entrance on the north side of the Santa Monica Freeway. The rails now stop just off the edge of this picture.

Although the rails stop at the parking lot, they begin again to go over this bridge across Motor Avenue, before stopping near the underpass.

I especially would have liked to have found that second GSV.....that's pretty cool.
Did you go 'back in time' on the Google_Earth timeline to find these view? (for some reason they look older...especially the second one)

I didn't go "back in time", but it looks like the 45 degree views that I posted are a little out-of-date. The overhead view shows construction work on the Exposition Line well under way. Rails have now been laid through the parking lots, and there's a retaining wall opposite the end of Clarington Avenue. I've inset a close-up of the sign.

Interesting research HossC on the Cutts Building (previously the Sun).

I couldn't help but notice the reflection in the window above Zinke's Shoe Repair Shop.
As most of you probably know, it's the baroque dome atop the 1920 Pantages Theater Building. (later Warner Bros. downtown)
Today it's known as the Jewelry Theater Building.

I'm not sure how close in proximity this trailer park is too Los Angeles, but I thought it interesting enough to post.

-that's sure a fancy car...in this rural setting you'd expect at least some dust on it. -perhaps they washed it once they arrived(they should have taken a hose to their trailer as well.

I just noticed...there's a nice looking blue convertible as well.
