The fastest growing big city in BRAZIL: BELO HORIZONTE (BH) !!! Fabulous PICS!!

Belo Horizonte is Brazil's third largest and most populous metro, only after Sao Paulo and Rio. The city is growing rapidly since the late 90's.
It has almost 5 million people in the metro area, though the city was founded only 109 years ago. Back in 1897 it was the country's first planned city.

The city is rarely seen here in SSP, so I decided to make a thread about it.

The weather is dry most of the year, so wildfires in the suburbs are quite common. The city is surrounded by hills. There is a strong car culture. Pollution can be a problem in the dryest days. Palm trees are common, as well as swimming pools.

Nice city. It looks very similar to Los Angeles's Westside or even Beverly Hills.

^from the air, its as different from Los Angeles as its possible. Of course, rich residential areas with houses may look Los Angeles. But the urbanity of the city is VERY different...

That's true, especially when we consider the hillsides, and it's a comparisson many americans who come to the city make, as well as many residents of Belo Horizonte who visit LA.

The landscaping and weather has its similarities, and both cities have luxury residential areas in the hillsides.

I would agree.

The last 12 pics could easily be in a number of of hilly coastal cities in California...also, the landscaping is similar, with Queen Palms and Jacaranda Trees everywhere.

Absolutely love these Brazillian threads, btw.

^Mary, the "climate" of BH is cooler than LA because of the height. I guess it is also more humid. Anyway, I dont think he thought they were similar due to climate, since he was looking at pics.

As for appearance, BH may look LA on its mountain areas with mansions, but exception of that, BH is VERY different from LA, as can be seen on the aerial pic I posted.

Some wonderful landscaping for those houses, but also nice to see the yards aren't huge (waste of space imo).
