Yeah, like the article in the FP about Book Fair moving around over the years; customers telling the owners to move to the suburbs so they can park free. I say f*ck off. BF is a perfect store for downtown.

^ I used to get my parking validated at the Bay downtown all the time. didn't matter how much I spent..? Is that not the case anymore?

And it doesn't really matter who owns the parkade - it's still attached to the building and still a prominent feature as any future tenant(s) of the Bay building would undoubtedly put it to good use.

Hasn't been for years, probably at least 10, possibly longer.

When I was in uni I recall getting parking validated at The Bay. It certainly encouraged me to get into the habit of shopping there when I was younger and didn't necessarily want to pay $5 to park for a an hour and a half.

Quite happy with the final exterior cladding and look of this project, I was apprehensive with the renders at first but it turned out to be a pleasant addition to this corner.

Nah, didn't take any myself but here's one from Sept.22..

The staggered balconies break up the a typical block like look so common in Winnipeg in the past..

^ Well, it's not going to win any architectural awards but I think it's a decent filler building mainly for the role it plays in the streetscape. It makes Portage and Memorial feel that much bulkier, and it'll help keep more people on the streets around there which is a good thing. Between that building and the Buhler Centre (with its very successful Stella's location) that corner has really improved over the past 5 years.

The balconies help. It is pretty bland, but better than an empty lot.

I don't know if it's been mentioned lately. But colony Square was indeed painted completely grey. Should've left it orangey brown. Not sure why everything these days is grey.

"Modern" in some minds. I prefer the orange color. The downtown is too beige and grey.

Not to mention, painting a couple of brown brick slabs grey is a lateral move at best--now instead of brick housing projects they look like concrete housing projects.

I'm sure 30 years from now they'll paint it brown again once earth tones eventually come back in style.

Terrible. One wonders who made such a decision. The colour was one of the reasons I always liked that development.

Painting brick is a wonderful way of turning a simple maintenance free exterior finish into an almost permanent maintenance hog.

Brilliant foresight!

Some new trim and other accents would have been a far smarter and better option IMO.

I actually really like the look of all the white buildings at that corner, it's kinda neat. Buhler, Commons, that other U of W building on Portage that's for sale, glass manufacturer is mostly white, and WAG is kinda white. Kinda makes a little white/arctic Village feel. I dig.

Wish if anything they painted Colony square white haha.

it's more than just painted grey, they painted under each balcony red and added tinted glass railings. I actually think it looks quite spiffy!

Anyone know what the reason for the changes to Colony Square? It looks like Timbercreek took them over - am not sure if plan is the increase rent / do full renos like they have done to a few places already.

I liked the old color more personally but did think they could have used some updates. Hopefully when it's done it looks good.

I hope whatever the gaping empty space that was left out in the Commons is planned for happens soon. Looks pretty cavernous right now.
