Greay Beams? Or light color? 07/20/2017

I notice today at the top of the building what looks like a coating peeling off of the cross beam, or something that is hanging on it. I'll keep an eye on this to see what happens. Can it be that the gray that we see is not the final color?

Oh for 3-D vision!

Looks to me more like a bit of protective film is still adherent and gradually peeling off a bit in the center portion.

VERY nice to have a close up, high def image though. I could see these areas of different color on the construction cams but no way to tell what they were.

Nice catch Jerry! I wonder if there's a problem going on under the spire and with the cladding. The crane certainly has been up for what seems like an abnormally long period of time.

^^Again, I suspect they don't want to install the decorative cladding at the base as long as there is heavy equipment moving around there that would dent it badly if it were bumped. They appear to have the brackets installed--they'll slap on the panels as among the last things they do.

Does anyone know what's happening here (referencing posts #1183-1185)? The crane has been sitting up there for a very long time, not doing much. Why is the section under the spire still not finished after many months?

I think it would be strange to have protected film covering the trim since it would have to be peeled off over the entire building.

What is the hold up with this project?

I can't speak to the rest but it looked like the crane was used for installing the window washing boom yesterday.

Could be the hold-up is with the terminal which we know is a bit behind schedule. Maybe these buildings with direct roof park access are in no hurry to be completed while the terminal is still under construction.

I don't think that has anything to do with it--they're paying a small fortune to keep that crane up there. Why hasn't the section under the spire been completed for so long? What caused the spot that Jerry discovered? If you look at the overall timing, it's behind Salesforce and other projects and visiable progress is rather scant.

^^I don't think we know what's behind schefule compared to what. All we can see are the superficial things like some windows or facade panels. What's remaining of that to be installed on both buildings--this and Salesforce--could probably be installed in a day or two. We don't know the status of roof-top mechanicals or lighting.

In the case of this building, I'm more curious why the construction elevator is still there than the crane. Surely the imternal elevators are in place by now but maybe not the rooftop equipment.

And it has been published that they've had disappointing interest in the penthouse units so far. Maybe they want a certain percentage of pre-sales.

There are just too many possibilities. Even the crane--the developers here have other projects and maybe they planned to use the same crane on those but the delay is there.

Who knows? But I'm still betting it's done by the end of the year as scheduled. And by the way, I remain pretty sure that thing in Jerry's photo is just a piece of paper--used to protect the panels in shipment and easily ripped off when it's time for the final punch list.

Good points! I can really see now that probably is some kind of wrapping on the upper trim, after having thought it was the other way around.

Facebook in talks for lease at Chronicle building or 181 Fremont

Reporter,San Francisco Business Times

Facebook Inc. is in talks for a possible lease either at the San Francisco Chronicle building at 110 5th St. or at 181 Fremont, according to two sources.

It would be the first office lease in San Francisco for the world's largest social network (NASDAQ: FB), and could lead to a larger expansion in the city, the sources said.

. . . the 802-foot skyscraper under construction in the Transbay District . . . has up to 432,000 square feet available, with asking rents between $80 and $100, according to brokerage data . . . .

Today the blog BisNow reported they could be looking at virtually all the available commercial space: 400,000 sq. ft.

maybe an unforeseen design issue.

I still think 181 to be the coolest of the new crop.
Yet,
I also have this feeling the construction firm is having to deal with some kind of design/engineering challenge with that corner under the spire. Hope the architects don't have to redesign it.

The expense of having the tower crane up there for so long must certainly be mounting.
