^Indeed it has been under construction for about 2.5 years, not what Bedrock's vice president of construction said according to the above Detroit News article: "It's pretty boring for most of the people of Detroit to see us toiling in a hole for the last year and half." Not sure if he really misremembered, or was trying to downplay how slow this has been, or he thought people weren't bored during the first year.

The block is definitely getting built. There is no guarantee for the 680 footer, however, because it could still be shortened further.

https://www.crainsdetroit.com/real-e...ns-site-monday

Article mentions how they’ve experienced 300+ hours of delays while drilling the caissons. Apparently the last one required them to drill completely through an old Hudson’s caisson. At least now that drilling is practically done there should be many more delays in the timeline, with the elevator cores set to rise to street level by December with structural steel following in The spring.

This hasn't been under construction for 2.5 years though, it took an entire year to demolish and removed the underground parking garage.

To be honest I did forget about that, although that Bedrock guy said "toiling in a hole" which means working below ground and IMO includes the demolition of the underground garage. Actually I just checked some photos I took in early July 2018 and most of the garage was already gone, and the photos show people "toiling in a hole".

I agree he probably just wasn't very clear, rather than intentionally misleading: he was referring to the 1.5 years of post-demolition construction, excluding the ~45 days of shutdown when of course no one was toiling.

I know this is gonna sound super disappointing to everyone here but I've seen the final renders and not too much has changed. The design of the tower is still the book-like massing as we have seen in the past. The "block" portion of the site has a more interesting design although I believe it has become more of a mess since the first renderings emerged. It now extensively uses a geometric aluminum facade with a golden hue on the first 5ish floors. Above that there is a transition floor of just plain glass and then the top 7ish floors have a basic "folded glass" design (kinda like BMO tower in chicago) that wasn't that exciting imo. The skylight looked really cool though and there is a large 6 story atrium with a garden in the center which will definitely be a beautiful space. The space between the block and the tower will be a pedestrianized space too. Oh and this is the final design that was given out to contractors. Sadly the person who showed me couldn't share it with me. That's the best I can say. Feel free to ask other questions.

Sounds pretty indicative of the released renders, which I don't find disappointing.

The white lines on the tower are terracotta right?

Will the tower facade be the same from the previous renders or will it get an entirely new facade?

No, aluminum

And I also want to stress just how weird the geometric aluminum on the block portion looks. It's honestly impossible to describe but I'd say it looks like something hebrides cave in Scotland but flipped upside down or kinda like the Bund Finance Center in Shanghai.

Tower looked very similar to the older renderings except that it had one window wall system instead of two (as seen in the older rendering).

And this is just based off your one observation of a render?

I mean how similar does it look to this? I have a hard time visualizing a significant change.

The Bund Finance Center comparison sounds kinda promising.

Found this render in the city's files from December 2019

The block looks the same from previous renders, but the tower is a different story. Does the new tower render look something like this?
