Good news. Now we just need to get the crown jewel of the whole complex, WTC2, having a visit from the Manitowoc 888. It would be nice to have tower 2 rising alongside the HY, and the 57th St. supertalls. Sort of a shock-and-awe campaign.

lol look at New York now. 1WTC isnt even completed and there is already a building under construction only 1 foot shorter.

My dream is to see Brooklyn and Jersey City both get supertalls to flank lower Manhattan.

Did a little fact checking on 100m+ towers:

* In terms of accuracy; CTBUH > Emporis

Towers complete 100m + = 636 (CTBUH)
Towers u/c 100m + = 26 (CTBUH)
Towers proposed 100m + = 41 (CTBUH)
Towers topped out 100m + = 17 (CTBUH)
Towers on hold 100m + = 3 (CTBUH)

and...

Towers from 40m to 99m = An ungodly amount (CTBUH only has 100m or greater listed)

I love coming to this thread and seeing these amazing towers which are redefining the New York skyline and bringing back a tall, thin profile which is reminiscent of the skyline of the 20's and 30's. From an architectural perspective it's like Christmas morning every time one of these new super talls is announced but…

I'm also scared. Am I the only one thinking that what's happening here, in London and around the world is part of a giant speculative bubble? The stock market is going wild while the rest of the economy is not seeing a meaningful recovery. How long can we keep building these towers for billionaires before the whole thing collapses?

That's what I was thinking too. That would be very disappointing if that's the case since Midtown was my preferred choice.

East Midtown specifically.

These buildings are overwhelmingly for mega-millionaires, not billionaires. There are tons of mega-millionaires globally, so you only need a small fraction to get tons of new supertalls.

And there aren't really that many superluxury units being built. Most of these buildings have gigantic unit sizes. Many Manhattan luxury buildings have fewer units than floors.

Nice source! Some newer or under construction buildings have wrong data (height figure, floor count), but nothing biggy.

It seems to me like its a database thats a cleaner, more visually friendly version of Emporis where you don't have to pay to access day to day information. I'm impressed with their China section. NYC is also pretty awesome. So many pictures for projects from the 40m to 100m range. There are hundreds of them.

Funny that you made that comparrison, because some of the contributors (myself included) had a former relationship with Emporis. Feel free to register and help out, keeping NYC up to date. Registration also allows for use of the advanced search function where you can filter results to say: Art Deco buildings built between 1928-1930 with a brick facade.

Unlike Emporis which just focused on high-rise buildings, Phorio is a database indexing all objects found in the built environment including parks, monuments, bridges, rowhouses in addition to high-rises and skyscrapers. All obejcts are geo-coded and have pin points on a map feature which you can scroll through.

New York City has over 17,000 objects indexed on the website.
