Well, neither Edmonton's nor Regina's is physically located as logistically as Winnipeg's..

And neither has a Free-Trade-Zone..(which has to be federally mandated)

To my knowledge, neither has received massive federal funding for infrastructure either.

(Port Alberta received 1.5 million $, not sure about Regina's, Gov of Canada contributed not sure how much towards the >200 million $ expressway but most likely more than 1.5 mil)

Those things are pretty key.

Especially geographical location.

The water stuff was probably the largest road block to really getting things going...can't really build anything until that is in place.

The inland port in Regina is partially associated with relocating the rail yards. It would be silly to expect goods coming from the pacific and heading to Saskatchewan or Alberta to be shipped to Winnipeg by rail and then transferred to trucks to head west.

I would not view the inland ports as competing with each other.

Google Maps is now showing CCW, although they don't indicate the Highway number. What is it again, 190?

Province stopped city from acquiring Rosser land

Winnipeg officials wanted to bring the CentrePort lands that lie within the RM of Rosser into the city but the Selinger government wouldn’t allow it.

Katz said as long as the province is opposed, Winnipeg’s boundaries will never expand to capture the residential and industrial lands in the neighbouring RMs.

Forward thinking bunch our provincial government is, ain't it?

That has nothing to do with it. The province has unlimited power when it comes to municipal affairs, because municipalities only exist at the pleasure of the province.

Now that they have sewer and water hammered out, what dose the city have to offer aside from higher taxes? IMO centerport is more attractive to investors not being part of winnipeg.
The city would probably make a mess of future service roads as the area is developed if they had anything to do with it

With the waste/water issues finally being resolved, this I wasn't aware of, some may have already known that a portion of the originally allocated lands zoned industrial for Centreport are now going before council to be re-designated residential?

Quote:
The City of Winnipeg is also poised to redesignate 236 hectares of CentrePort land to create a new residential area on the northern edge of St. James.

On Wednesday, council's executive policy committee voted to change the designation of land located between Saskatchewan Avenue and CentrePort Canada Way to a residential area from a manufacturing area.

The move, which faces final council approval on Dec. 11, paves the way for property developer Genstar to build and market a new supply of homes in an area of the city where there's a shortage of new housing, Gray said.

I guess Fielding needs more taxpayers out there.

Wow, imagine not only living out in St. James but literally behind the airport. If that's not out of the way I don't know what is.

Isn't to move shipping/freight away from residential the exact reason they wanted to build CCW/the inner ring road? This doesn't make any sense at all...

I just asked Diane Gray if I buy a house in the CentrePort lands if I can take advantage of all the Foreign Trade Zone exemptions... I don't expect a response

^ That is a brilliant question to Gray! Could you imagine the savings you would recieve from purchasing foreign goods?? Especially on imported ear plugs and sound protection devices?

I'm curious about pricing of homes so close to the airport. Could be a steal.

I wonder if residential suburbia will find a way to extend north of Saskatchewan onto Centreport lands... particularly the Crestview area, with Buchanan and Cavalier extensions. What do you guys think?
