A lot of you guys are in the buisness, have you heard any horror stories of those workers getting stuck in skips for a prolonged time like the ones we hear of interior elevators? Height+weather+time=yikes.

I had a short stint in 08 as a Union Local 4 laborer before the economy crashed and I got laid off. Like I said my same buds that are installing the hoists. We took those skips up n down daily. But I mostly had to go up on the mast climber and attached the track and framework to the building. Pretty sketchy when the winds are blowing and you're hanging off the edge reaching out over a couple hundred foot drop minimum while your bud is holding onto your belt from behind. Those skips safe for the most part from what I know. Never had an issue on my end. Couple guys had fallen off buildings and hurt themselves doing various other things and one worker fell to his death that year but noting to do with these devices. I wish I would have had a chance to ride up Vista. I did get the chance to ride up to the roof of Trump during construction and hang out for a while. That was cool.

Has there been any discussion of how the design of Vista tower is related to (derived from?) Constantin Brancusi's "Column" in the Museum of Modern Art in

New York?

Am I the only one who kind of thinks they should just admit defeat on the blow-through floors, take off the exterior grating, and pretend like that was the design all along?

yes, there were many people making that connection when the design was first revealed 6 years ago.

That actually looks kind of cool! But there are structural columns along the perimeter.

Id hope so because that looks precarious. But imagine what they did on the west end of the river with the building next to the train tracks.

That is even more intimidating. Meaning 150 N riverside.

90% of the mass is above the concreate podium.

The comparison has been made before.

Local architecture critic Blair Kamin has mentioned it.

Here's another article that mentions it.

Maybe the 'Endless Column' was an inspiration. But from the first time I saw this I imagined Ms Gang looking at a table full of empty take-out boxes. And she started to play with them.

it was a late night at the studio.... they decided to order some chinese food.... around midnight someone started goofing around with the empty food cartons.... skyscraper!

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but the section where the construction blokes are hanging out, with the high ceiling, is that some special event section or something that will have an amenity functionality (cigar room, restaurant, ballroom, ect).
