How do we know demolition begins in November?

Folks - especially those of us who've been around a while - we know we won't be talking about construction for quite some time. There will be a large new lot on Pattison and nothing else for a while. Get used to it.

This is such a beautiful and unique expansions. It reminds me of the Olympic Stadium from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Any new news on this project? Will it move forward?

In addition to the Free Library expansion, I believe that Vine St from 10th to 20th St needs a major refurbishment. The expressway needs to be covered up w/ a park because I don't see how that stretch is helping out Vine St w/ an exposed interstate like I-676. This will eventually help recreational projects like the Reading Viaduct Park get off the right foot. Also there needs to major residential/commercial infill done on Vine St, as it has huge swaths of parking lots, which blight the area, and also make it unfriendly to pedestrians, as well as lowering the speed limit from 30 to 25 mph, and even installing lampposts w/ white lights throughout the whole length or vine St, as well as the Parkway, Pennsylvania Ave, Walnut St, Chestnut St, and Locust St for better aesthetics during the night. The current lighting isn't doing the job, especially for what's supposed to be a world class thoroughfare like the Parkway and and Vine St. I also believe that PATCO should expand their subway system from Franklin Sq to 30th St, which would make Vine St a major corridor in CC.

It is sad to see it go, however the article also states that ground breaking for Philly Live is set to go as soon as the demo work is done. I would take that with a grain of salt but at least its something about this project.

Curious... Anyone know what the signage on the Spectrum says these days? It said "Wachovia Spectrum" but now Wachovia is Wells Fargo. But, I couldn't see Wells Fargo putting their name on the building for a few months before a demolition. Did they keep the Wachovia name, put up a Wells Fargo sign, or does it just say "Spectrum" now?

Sad, but also necessary. The stadium district is an isolated neighborhood that is begging for something like Philly Live to give it more of a connection to the city. If that means taking down the Spectrum, then so be it. Are we never going to replace stadiums once they become outdated?

Also, I believe the former Wachovia Center has a small (and hopefully temporary) sign that reads Wells Fargo Center, on the side facing 95. Not sure if the larger sign was replaced.

I believe they just took all of the signage down.

What hasn't been discussed are which plans for Philly Live will begin this year. Will we get the grand plans that included two hotels and tons of retail and restaurant space. Or are we getting the Sugarhouse version...

I have a feeling we'll be getting the $10 per parking space paved lot version.

now that Harrah's is apparently taking over the Foxwoods casino, maybe they can move it to this site. It really would be the best for everyone.

The reason everyone keeps giving for not putting foxwoods there in the first place was because it was inside the 10 mile radius of Harrah's Chester. If Harrah's is doing the project, then it should be ok..?

It's difficult to figure out what's going where because of the occasionally-contradictory information presented in the IDD and the actual new construction...

But we know that:
1)the west side of Broad between Montgomery and Norris is going to be overhauled, with major renovation on Pearson-McGonigle, a new library, and a new dorm (+offices?) complex,

2) Barton Hall, between Berks Polett, Park Liacouras, Norris, and 13th, is going to be razed and replaced with a new main quadrangle.

3) Research functions from the fmr. Barton Hall will be shifted into the (old) Paley Library (renamed Paley Hall?) and a new research building, whose construction may be either in the Dirt Lot on the SE corner of 11th and Berks, as the plan seems to show; or in a annex onto Engineering and Architecture at the SE corner of 12th and Norris, as the rendering seems to show, and

4) Two new dorms and a replacement of an existing dorm are shown on the plan. Construction work is ongoing on a dorm (SE corner of Broad and Cecil B. Moore) an off-campus campus-related facility--the International House. Two more off-campus campus-related projects have been proposed: one at the fmr. Wanamaker School at the NE corner of 12th and Cecil B. Moore, and the other a Blatstein idea called "Edge II" which would be fitted somewhere into the extant Edge/Avenue North site (SW Broad and Cecil B. Moore).
