Here's a link to a google maps recent view of this site. This is still here, sort of. Looks like a fire took out the top floor not to long ago:

simply amazing..................
I see that the palm trees are still there in '68, although thirty years taller. I wonder if they are still there now.

In the very center of the small block bounded by Sawtelle, Corinth, Santa Monica, and Idaho there is apparently a 1906 house which I can't seem to find in Bing Maps or Google Earth. I'll have to drive over there one of these days to see if I can at least identify the building, although I don't expect it to be be a pure vintage Edwardian bungalow necessarily. After all, old buildings do get enlarged, refinished, stuccoed over, and so on.

Another odd thing about this is that in this case there are two parcels with the same Santa Monica Boulevard address; the other one being a typical storefront that faces the boulevard. Outside of condominium units, I've never seen multiple parcels sharing a common street address.
I think the "house" may be a small bungalow. I circled two possibilities:

(Google satellite, hosted by me)

The blue-striped building labeled "3 day suit broker" is the only thing closest to the center, but it has a warehouse-style roof - certainly not a 1906 home.

I love this thread! It's taken me a couple of years to read everything, but I've learned so much! I think I need to start at the beginning again as I've slowly gotten acquainted with old LA, the beginning posts will mean much more the 2nd time around.

A big thank you to everyone who posts! I appreciated it!

I think you can rule out the building on the left as it doesn't appear on this 1952 aerial. The picture isn't clear enough to tell whether the one on the right was there or not.

Historic Aerials

Several property websites (eg. trulia.com) list the nearby 1750 Sawtelle Blvd as being built in 1906. It's currently a church, but the Google aerial view shows three smaller buildings behind. They all appear on the 1952 aerial.

I believe this PBR sign is in the Ferguson Building as well. (from The Indestructible Man 1956, that's Lon Chaney Jr.)

We've had a few posts about Tanner Motor Livery recently, but I haven't seen any mention of this phone number before. The OXford exchange would suggest Pico Rivera/Whittier, but they seem to be advertising their branch at the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel. Any guesses? Their number in San Diego was Main 3111.

www.cookbkjj.com

As well as Tanner Motor Livery limousines, there was also Tanner Motor Tours operating The Gray Line. These brochures all date from the '30s and '40s (according to their sellers).

All from Ebay

These tickets/passes are even earlier. Note the TRinity phone number and 324 So. Beaudry address on the one from 1927.

Ebay

Tanner Motor Tours could even meet your ship for a day-long tour of the city. This poster is dated 1928.

The picture below shows one of Tanner Motor Tours' Fageol Safety Coaches in 1931.

As an aside, that connecting line from the Williams Santa Fe station to the Grand Canyon is still in operation as the Grand Canyon Railway. I took the train to the south rim with my family in 2009.

I'll add another I found recently, to go along with this one.

I have not found this to be posted here before. It's my understanding that the original Earl Carroll's Theatre neon sign was gone by the '60's, but Los Angeles' Museum of Neon Art (MONA) has recreated it and recently, at least, it was at the Universal City Walk...I need to go see it. I haven't been to MONA since they moved, after 30 years, to Glendale, but I should go there, too! I don't know if it was built to the scale of the original, which was twenty feet high.

Harrelson Block at Third Street and Winston Street

Does anyone have any info on the Harrelson Block located on the South side of Third Street between South San Pedro and Wall Street. The block and adjacent buildings look pretty old. I thought perhaps somebody else here might be able to shed some light on these forgotten, and perhaps soon to be razed buildings.

Here are some photos I shot a few days ago:

Building on the SW corner of Third and Wall. The early facade covered in stucco:
