Lightbulb DCTA GTWs gets FRA wavier for concurrent ops

http://www.dcta.net/images/stories/p...val_by_FRA.pdf

This could be big news for diesel or electric powered light rail sized trains running on shared freight tracks all across America concurrently, without having to get time separation waivers.

Speaking of the Stadler GTWs DCTA has now, it is very nice inside with a ton of overhead room and one mean a/c unit. Some other bells and whistles as well.

Some photos just for fun. . . at Union Station in Dallas for the APTA Conference 2012.

I got to 100% car-free by 24APR12. Been great. Lot of walking, some biking and the rest is by rail (DART/M-Line). No aversion to the local bus, just hasn't been part of my needs yet.

I used to live near the LBJ / Central station and with a bit of practice I could go 2 or 3 days at a time with out getting in a car.

I imagine with the advent of the green and orange lines and the Denver line thing would get much more interesting.

I've got a room booked for June 29th... Going to try out Megabus and do a 2-day "rail-cation" up in Dallas. Of course now that I have to cab from Grand Prairie to the hotel, it won't be quite as fun as I'd hoped.

BTW why doesn't inner Dallas have any hostels? Houston's got like 2 or 3!!

DCTA starts midday service on Monday. The commuter schedules have been adjusted now that the new Stadler vehicles have been delivered.

FWTA wants to order 18 GTWs for TexRail commuter rail very soon.
Also looking at attracting foreign train manufacture (Stadler?) to DFW area.

Took these mobile takes today of the first vehicle for the starter modern streetcar line in Dallas.

It opens on Monday.

The Dallas Streetcar opened today.

Here's some phonephotos of our first ride this morning from Union to OC.

McKinney Ave Trolley Line Extension Opens

http://transportationblog.dallasnews...saturday.html/

Downtown, Uptown celebrating trolley extension Saturday
Brandon Formby Follow @brandonformby Email bformby@dallasnews.com

"Dozens of Downtown and Uptown businesses on Saturday will celebrate the new extension of the M-Line Trolley, which last month began running deeper into the city’s central business district before looping back to McKinney Avenue...."

"...“This is the first time we’re really going to the core,” said McKinney Avenue Transit Authority chairman and co-founder Phil Cobb. “We’re not to Main Street yet, but keep your fingers crossed.”....."

For those not too familiar with Dallas; this is a separate line from the street car posted above. Street car goes south of downtown into the Bishop Arts Neighborhood of Dallas and the MATA trolley line goes north into Uptown. The Trolley is busier than I've seen in the past 10 years.... Great to see!!
