The mostly vacant Chromer Building at 1516 Second Ave., where the Elysian Bar closed in July, sold to a Chinese-backed buyer this summer for $32.5 million. Pinnacle Plus Development LLC and Hewitt are now proposing two linked towers with between 475 and 540 condominium units.

Hewitt calls its preferred design for 1516 Second the “Mama Tower” and the “Baby Tower.”

The 484-foot main tower would be on the north, with a 160-foot companion tower on the south, and a keyhole void between the two.

The north tower would be slightly cantilevered over the south tower, and they would be linked by exposed columns.

The north tower would have 46 stories, and the south tower would have 17 stories. The gap between them would be about 21 feet.
