I was thinking about what are the facilities we should have in 'Kaup Seafront Filmcity' so to make it unique in the country.
  1. Facilities for adventure water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, wakeboarding, kite surfing etc, also sky diving could be done using seaplanes.
  2. Oceanarium
  3. Startup Theme Park (Marine & Photography/Filmography themes)
  4. Warship Museum
  5. Underwater Museum {1,2} - Pauranik or Historic theme
  6. Marina with docking facilities for Catamarans, Houseboats, Kayaks, passenger boats etc
  7. Amphibious vehicles {1,2,3,4,5,6,7}
  8. As in other film cities of India {1,2,3}
  9. As in other waterfront theme parks of the world (waterslide through oceanarium, inflatable water park etc) {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8}
  10. Artificial Kayaking Arena (through oceanarium?)
  11. 'Film Studio' with 'Animation Studio'
  12. A school of 'Computational Creativity' and 'Cultural Analytics', film studies along with other film schools.
  13. 'Kambla Track' & other Tulundau heritage displays
  14. Residential township for film personalities

Startup/Hobby Theme Park within filmcity may lead to innovations in movies also. For example, innovative gadgets like kittyhawk can be used in films. Just imagine hero or heroine, who happens to be a hobbyist, flying on kittyhawk firing at terrorists' or smugglers' boat or ship.

Only thing is Kaup MLA should take interest to materialize the dream of people of his constituency for having a filmcity at Kaup and airport at Padubidri. By the way, why there is no news on progress made so far for construction of airport? Whether feasibility study is done or whether DPR itself is getting ready?

Apart from Kaup Marine Hobby/Startup Theme Park other Hobby/Startup Theme Parks are

1) Bagundi - Clean Energy/Technology & Petrochemicals
2) Deralakatte or Pilikula - Medical/Healthcare
3) Manpalla - Medical/Healthcare
4) Puttur - Agriculture & Food Processing

And then Kundapur, Karkala, Uppinangadi & BC Road will also have hobby theme parks or clubs.

So far no statement on this by Kaup MLA or Udupi MP. Neither on Padubidri Airport work commencement. I don't know what is the achievement of Udupi-Chickmagalur MP so far. I don't even think for bringing 'Gems & Jwellery Institute' to Udupi she had made any contribution and we all know about who is behind 'Startup Coast'.

Since the central government plan is to develop Kaup as health city (hopefully including health knowledge city) I have changed the title of the filmcity as 'Alupa Floating Filmcity'. This filmcity can be floating in sea near Kaup or anywhere in the coastal districts. Since Indian government has proposed plan to build floating cities developing a floating filmcity will not be a problem. Like the historical Alupa Kingdom this filmcity will also shine for more than thousand of years producing Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Hindi and also Kannada and other language movies. I think we can have more than 5000 acres floating filmcity in the sea. But the mall planned by an NRI can be within Udupi city itself including all kinds of film schools and film study institutes.

This report here is only a temporary setback to the coast as the CM favouring this city for filmcity is going to lose power in another two months and since the party coming to power will favour the coast. This is because the party coming to power will not win any seat in that region and it will win maximum number of seats in the coastal districts. There is also no threat of bollywood copying any idea from here. The filmcity definitely is coming to Karavali. Don't worry Karavalites!

Will Film City project be launched before elections? - In the past also foundation stones were laid for so many things before election and then abandoned. In this case also the next government will decide the location of the film city. Tuluvas don't worry coastalwood will have its own film city soon.

B R Shetty to set up highly advanced multiplex at Udupi
Quote:
• Dr B R Shetty plans to set up India's highly advanced multiplex at Udupi as part of supporting Project Indywood and as a gift to his hometown
• Another big budget project from NMC Group Founder after the announcement of Rs 1000 crore Mahabharata movie
• More NRI tycoons and corporates to support 10 billion US dollar Project Indywood
BR Shetty plans to set up multiplex at Udupi
Quote:
The Rs 70,000 crore Project Indywood aims at initiating 10,000 new 4K projection multiplex screens, 100,000 2K/4K projection home cinemas, 8K/4Kfilm studios, 100 animation/VFX studios and film schools conforming to international standards.
I am more interested in 'Film City' than multiplexes. But hope multiplex will give boost to animation industry by reserving enough office space for animation studios.

Karnataka government on one hand talks about eco-system. But on the other hand wants to promote a film city in a city where film industry does not even exist. We have eco-system ready with coastalwood. And coastal Karnataka can easily expand to both Kannada & Hindi films production also as we have enough stars & directors in both Bollywood & Sandalwood. But strange are the ways in which politics work.

What we need to produce is very good Hindi Script Writers so that we can contribute to Hindi Film, Comics, Cartoons Industry in a big way and earn enough from it. Don't we have enough people knowing Hindi? And we need then dubbing artists also. Hope Film Schools planned along with multiplex will achieve this.

By 2020, India will be the only country in the world to have 1,000 8K screens: Indywood founder Sohan Roy
Quote:
Sohan Roy added, "BR Shetty was the only billionaire, who attended the 2nd edition of Indywood Film Carnival last year. He already announced Rs 1,000 crore movie, which is going to be the biggest budget film ever made in Indian cinema. He has also announced to build the 8K cinema in his native Udupi, Karnataka and it is first ever theatre in India. This is also the first of its kind of cinema hall."
Whether 'School of Film Studies' is also included in the plan for Udupi?

Udupi: Coastal Karnataka’s ‘first’ recharge wells are ready to tap rainwater

Rs. 245-cr. plan to supply Varahi water to Udupi
Quote:
With the Detailed Project Report being submitted to the government for getting Varahi water to Udupi through pipelines to meet the drinking water needs during summer, the tenders for this project are expected to be floated in about a month-and-a-half.

The project, under the Karnataka Integrated Urban Water Management Investment Programme (KIUWMIP), envisages laying pipelines for 39.6 km from the jackwell of the non-functional lift irrigation pumphouse at Bharathkal village across the Varahi to the dam across the Swarna at Baje, about 15 km from Udupi.

This would provide round-the-clock and round-the-year water to the city. This project would cost Rs. 270 crore. The other important projects which will be inaugurated by Mr. Siddaramaiah are the third phase of Malpe Fisheries Harbour built at a cost of Rs. 69 crore, the Rs. 9-crore Kurady Bridge, the Rs. 1.5-crore Zilla Panchayat Training Centre in Manipal among others.

The works which would be inaugurated and for which foundation stones would be laid had been estimated to cost Rs. 581 crore, Mr. Madhwaraj said.

Airports Authority of India planning to set up air cargo hub in Udupi district
Quote:
Sat, Dec 9 2017 07:07:34 PM

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Dec 9: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has drawn up a plan to set up its cargo hub in the region, and has asked revenue department to acquire and hand over to it 2,500 acres of land.

The news has made the people of Inna, Belman, Mulladka, Mundkoor villages in the taluk as well as Palimar, Yellur, Santhoor, Nandikoor and other villages in Kaup taluk jittery as they are apprehensive of losing their land for this project.

It is said that such projects are also proposed to be executed in Mysuru, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi etc.

A decision to identify alternative land in three places of Udupi district was taken at a meeting of Airports Authority held at Bengaluru on June 1 this year.

It is said that the authority plans to manage traffic density in the international airport at Mangaluru in this way as it expects 56 aircrafts presently using he runway at Mangaluru per day to increase to 80 to 100 shortly.

Udupi district deputy commissioner has issued a notice to tahsildars of Karkala, Udupi and Kaup tauks to identify land for the said project and send a report thereof. The notice seeks to create international health city from Kaup lighthouse to Polipu beach, and for the proposed multi model new international airport and cargo hub for which it proposes to acquire land from Palimar, Mulladka, Mundkoor and Inna villages. Satellite images of the land that has be planned to be acquired from villages like Shiroor, Byndoor, Paduvari and Yadtare on the other end of the district, it is learnt. The taluks are expected to verify the satellite maps and provide details to the district administration.
'Nagpur Multi-modal International Air Cargo Hub' has air, rail and road connectivity. I think 'Udupi Multi-modal International Air Cargo Hub' will be real multi-mode transportation hub by having water transportation connectivity also.

Why not 'Health Knowledge City' along with 'Health City'? What we can wish for is all medical R&D, medical related IT/ITES works and medical devices manufacturing industries and pharmaceutical industries to be located in air cargo hub SEZ itself. Medical devices & parts, pharmaceuticals, jewelry (from Jewel Park), food, flower, textiles, garments, ship/boat spare parts, electronics, nanotech products, printed materials can be air cargo.

What about 'Film City'? As I said earlier even 'Karnad Sadashiva Rao Marine Knowledge City', 'Petroleum & Energy Knowledge City' can come up near the airport in Mangaluru Taluk. More land should be handed over to 'Belapu MU Campus'. Even 'Finance Knowledge & IT City' can be considered near airport.

So, if added both for DK & Udupi, requirement is 2,000 acres at Puttur and 2,500 acres in Udupi/Karkala/Kundpura for SAZ/SEZs. Whether land after acquisition will be handed over to private investors?

Can we expect 'Indian Institute of Logistics'?

Whether 'Shambhavi Waterway' would be developed as a part of air cargo hub /SEZ development? How many dams are planned along Shambhavi?

Major development plans await Marvanthe beach
Quote:
Soon, tourists will be able to enjoy the cool breeze of the sea walking on the pavement with interlock tiles and also sit on granite benches and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings at Marvanthe. “We want to develop the Marvanthe-Trasi stretch as a marine drive to give tourists an unforgettable experience,” Anita B.R., Assistant Director of Tourism, told The Hindu.

The department has 1.10 acres of land close to the beach which it intends to develop for parking and other amenities for tourists at a cost of Rs. 1.36 crore under the Coastal Circuit Scheme. The funds have been released to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) for this purpose. A watch tower with life guard facility will also come up on the beach. To give the tourists a taste of coastal cuisine, food shacks too would be constructed. “Some food shacks would be given to owners of petty shops whose stalls were removed from the beach for its development,” Ms. Anita said.

The government has 13.12 acres of land opposite the Souparnika, on the other side of the highway. Here, the department would construct a Tourism Information Centre with all facilities, including a food court, at a cost of Rs. 6 crore. Those with a spirit of adventure would be able to enjoy the thrill of water sports in the river. A sum of Rs. 1.84 crore has been sanctioned for the development of water sports under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union government.

A house boat facility will be introduced by September in the river, while a floating restaurant is being planned near the river course. “Our aim is to attract tourists both from the country and abroad,” said Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.

To remain a tourist attraction
Quote:
The department is considering allowing tourists to have sea-view from 'T' shaped groynes, which jut into the sea for about 110 metres, said B. Gopal Naik, Superintending Engineer of the Department.

“We are in touch with the tourism department so as to retain the region's original attraction,” he said.

Meanwhile, people can get into the sea in between the groynes as sufficient sand would have accumulated after completion of the project, he added.

Green wall in Udupi acts as coastal guard between the land and sea
Quote:
Mangroves, which act as carbon sinks, serve as a vital coastal ecosystem for fishermen. ‘‘Fish rarely breed in the deep sea because the conditions are hostile. Fish prefer mangrove environments so they are protected against predation and strong water currents,” says KM Vijaya Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Bhandarkar’s Art and Science College, Kundapur. Restoration of mangroves is essential to mitigate the effects of climate change, he adds.

The idea of restoring the mangrove forest struck Thingalaya, a farmer, when he heard forest officials talk about the importance of this plant that grows in intertidal zones. He approached them to get an idea about how to go about it. The forest department supported his cause and gave him the necessary suggestions, including forming a volunteer group.

Jeevandas Shetty, Deputy Range Forest Officer of Brahmavara section of Udupi range, says that mangrove forests in the estuaries of coastal Karnataka have started coming up in a big way after the forest department started growing them in 2008 under its ‘green wall’ project. According to the department statistics, over 800 hectares in the estuarine area have been brought under mangrove plantations. The areas are now full-fledged forests that can be developed into eco-tourism spots.
Quote:
The luxuriant landscape is attracting not just marine and winged creatures. It is fast becoming a tourist hub and a photographer’s haven, with many people even venturing deep into them to see the bustling marine and avian life thriving here. While some of them wade into the waist-level water, others use small hand-paddled canoes.‘‘Planting and taking care of the mangrove trees has ensured that visitors come to our village,” Thingalaya says.

Udupi CMC to adopt new water rationing methods

Project to bring Varahi water to Udupi to be completed in 2.5 years
Quote:
Prabhakar Sharma, Assistant Project Coordinator of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation, said on Friday that the Rs. 300.27 crore project — to bring water from the Varahi at Bharatkal in Kundapur taluk to Baje in Udupi taluk to meet the drinking water needs of Udupi city — would be completed in two-and-a-half years.
Quote:
A tender for the first package of Rs.122.5 crore was floated on January 27, while that for the second and third packages of Rs.60 crore and Rs.177.77 crore respectively will be floated in a month. The Detailed Project Report of the second package is under preparation, while the technical sanction is awaited for the third package. The execution of the three packages will take place almost simultaneously.

The entire project has been prepared by experts after a detailed study. This project will take care of water needs of Udupi city till 2046. Presently, the population of Udupi is 1.36 lakh and it is projected to be 1.94 lakh in 2046. Villages surrounding Udupi city too will be able to get drinking water from Varahi.

The water body plays a vital role in recharging groundwater table in Manipal and surrounding areas and hundreds of people visit the lake daily for walking. The water body, spread across 29.90 hectares, has a capacity to store 17,52,000 litres of water. The lake is filled with water during monsoon and attracts visitors. The water-level reduces drastically by February.

The Urban Development Authority has prepared a plan to remove silt from the lake at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh. The removal of the silt will help in increasing the water storage capacity in the lake.

The authorities are also mulling over the proposal to use the water in the lake as an alternative to supply water to Udupi city in case of emergency during peak summer, said sources in the Authority. There is also a proposal to extend the walking track around the lake.
