Looking at the timetable above…..note the Flying Boats also landed in Shediac Bay NB (near Moncton) on their way between New York and Ireland.

Wonder if there’s still any reminders of this service in the Shediac – Pointe du Chene area? Maybe at least a plaque?

There is a plaque at the very end of Pointe-du-Chene wharf behind the lighthouse with an overview of the wharf's history, including when the Clipper landed there.

This made the rounds of the local facebook groups recently. It shows the cod fish trade between western Newfoundland and California in the 1980s. Air Canada ran a freight service from Stephenville to Los Angeles via Toronto. The airport portion starts around the 7 minute mark. Neat to see the old Air Canada livery and a jet freight service from YJT.

Video Link

Of course, in the past 2 weeks, Provincial Airlines announced it is pulling out of Stephenville leaving our airport without regularly scheduled service from November to April. YJT is essentially on life support right now and is being propped up to the tune of about $750,000 per year by the municipal government. It's sad because Provincial ran their service here into the ground. They priced Stephenville flights at $80 more than Deer Lake flights, cut them back to one per day, and then 1 every second day, then twice per week and frequently cancelled them. I fly to St. John's 3-4 time per year for work and coworkers in St. John's frequently fly out here, but over the past 2 years it's been almost impossible to fly because of the poor schedule. We either have to drive 2 hours to Deer Lake and go from there or drive the 8 hours to St. John's.

Just for example: I have to go to St. John's for 3 days in November (Wednesday to Friday). I can fly from YJT on Wednesday morning but there's no return flight until the following Monday. So I'm driving. I could fly the return leg from YYT to Halifax with Porter, change planes and come into YJT on Saturday, but that's alot of going to avoid an 8 hour drive. 3 others from the office are also going, but because of the lack of flights we're just going to do a group road trip.

It wasn't long ago that PAL was doing 7000 pax per year between YJT and YYT. This year they did just 150. Hoping another airline can see the potential here and put a small commuter flight from YJT to YYT and YYR (Goose Bay)

Was looking through the AC schedule and noticed the updated start dates for the Rouge service to YFC & YSJ. Haven't looked closely into other changes yet. No doubt things have been in flux as AC moves capacity around in light of the continued MAX groundings...

YFC - YYZ - 2x daily starting Oct 27, 2019 on A321 (switches to A319 Dec 14)
YSJ - YYZ - 2x daily starting Feb 1, 2020 on A319

I'd say the YFC start is probably locked in now, but obviously the YSJ start is now far enough out that more changes are likely.

I know I will be flying West jet a lot more now due to the AC flights not getting to Toronto early enough. Overall it is better than they first proposed, and is a seat increase. I could see the SJ schedule being pushed back again, as the max8 issue is nowhere near solved.

Air Transat and Sunwing Airlines expand sun offerings from Greater Moncton this winter!
SEPTEMBER 30, 2019

Greater Moncton, N.B. – The Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) is pleased to share that Air Transat will be adding a second weekly flight to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this winter. This means there are options to leave to a variety of sun destinations every day of the week except for Tuesdays from the first week of February until early May. Destinations include weekly flights to Orlando, Florida; Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Varadero, Cuba; Montego Bay, Jamaica all starting in February. Adding to that list is a new route offered by Sunwing Airlines to Miami, Florida.

“Our sun destination offerings grow each year and are extremely successful. Thanks to our partner airlines, Sunwing Airlines and Air Transat, we now fly to 6 destinations weekly from February to May and have 12 flights to sun destinations per week. Adding Miami will allow for a direct flight to another Florida destination as well as give better accessibility for cruise options.”, said Bernard LeBlanc, YQM President and CEO.

For details, check YQM’s website (www.cyqm.ca) under the “Flight Information” tab, contact the airlines directly or call your travel agent.

Good to see the Miami flight sticking around. Glad to see no immediate changes with the Transat takeover.

Freddy's seasonal destinations are Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Cancun, or Punta Cana all with Sunwing. Interesting to see the flight being marketed to Americans, I do see a fair number of main plates in the parking lot there often.

Sadly for Stephenville it's airport is redundant thanks to Deer Lake. There aren't enough people on the west coast to support 2 regional airports, and both airports essentially exist to primarily service Corner Brook. Deer Lake is closer to Corner Brook, and better serviced by other airlines.

Trenton Airport CYTN

Not very often we get a ‘737 at Trenton NS. The airport is owned by Sobeys Stores Ltd. and usually sees only private aircraft and their corporate jets. (Sobeys Head office is in Stellarton NS)

But the Bishops University Gaiters from Lennoxville, Quebec were playing the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in a football game in Antigonish NS Friday evening…..so a Nolinor B-737-200 got them here from Sherbrooke in an hour vs a 12 hr bus ride.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...635Z/CYSC/CYTN

And some nostalgia: Trenton (shown in the timetable below as New Glasgow) once had scheduled service on an Eastern Provincial Airways Dart Herald.

CYQM Press Release:

Quote:
Airport terminal improvement projects at the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) beginning this week
OCTOBER 28, 2019

DIEPPE, NB – Starting this week, two major construction projects will be initiated at YQM in order to improve the baggage equipment and conveyor system as well as the conversion of the groundside lounge to a secure access entry point only.

The public and travellers will notice construction at the check-in counters. As well, once passengers go through security to access the pre-board area, there will be a few areas affected with contained construction areas.

These projects will have no impact on airline operations. Passengers will notice this activity when checking in luggage, as they will be asked to place their checked-in luggage on a different luggage belt than usual that will be in proximity to the check in counters.

Mezzanine accessibility and lounge airside conversion project

By the end of February 2020, the new airside lounge will be launched, increasing airside food and beverage offerings for passengers. This project has two main objectives: make the second-floor mezzanine accessible to all and second, to make better use of the second-floor lounge by making it post-security via a newly constructed bridge. Construction timelines have yet to be confirmed, but the public may see construction activity as soon as October 24. Construction activity should conclude by the end of January 2020. Passenger disruptions should be minimal as most of the construction should occur at non-peak times or after hours.

Baggage equipment/conveyor upgrading project

This is a Canadian Airport Transport Security Agency (CATSA)-funded program that entails a replacement and upgrade of baggage screening equipment and conveyors. The first phase of construction will begin at the end of October and continue until early December. From early December until the end of the project, the conveyor system will be shut down. There will be an additional X-ray unit placed next to the oversize screening operation where all checked luggage will be screened. There will be two people assisting passengers with baggage handling services throughout the project in an effort to facilitate this task – for example: loading the X-ray machines, placing the luggage on the oversize line, helping baggage handlers as required. The oversize line will be extended (lengthening the baggage pick-up point) in the outbound baggage room as an interim measure to help operations from December until the end of the project.

All construction is aimed to be finalized at the end of February, such as to minimize impacts to operations. YQM apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of these construction projects as we work towards improving the passenger experience upon completion of these key initiatives.

From the YSJ Twitter feed:

I'm sure they'll take some more arial shots once it's open. Would be great to see how the whole refurbished airfield looks, along with the new hangar area.

Wow they resurfaced both runways and all taxiways at the same time! Looks good. Do you know who owns the new Hangar going up on the west side of runway 32?

Another Irving. Built a little bigger than the first one, of course

I got to try out the new air Canada 321 rouge flight coming back form Toronto to Fredericton last night, it was a smooth ride, the only thing was it was a little over half full and they stated that we could not get up and off during take off or landing. I believe they were also shifiting some weight around.

Going down on the 1st it was pretty full. IT was good to see and a lot better than getting on the smaller planes. Almost made me not miss the early morning flight

Article in the Telegraph Journal saying the new owners of Westjet want to have a better presence in eastern Canada once the grounded planes are back in service.

Would be nice a direct Bathurst-Toronto flight with Westjet Encore, if this would ever happen, I see one of our daily flight to Montreal with AC express switch to Toronto to compete. Better connection opportunities!
