The high level line is... ridiculous.

1. The concept is just so painfully unoriginal. A poor copy-cat version of the real High Line - even the name. Luckily they acknowledge that with the superstore no-name brand yellow in all their imagery.

2. The city just installed (poorly designed) suicide barriers along the bridge's walking path, the top would no less require a similarly aggressive treatment. That alone was a few million if I remember correctly, and would detract from the effect the imagery is attempting to evoke.

3. The CoE is hellbent on safety, all this congregating on active rail tracks? Yes it's just a slow streetcar, but I don't see that flying. They even installed railings along the new walking trails along the river's edge. (see under the walterdale bridge, and the current river path at LMP) I have never seen railing along a riverfront except in Edmonton.

4. curious as to what the intervention up top looks like given the city said the bridge couldn't support LRT anymore. Maybe a park with moist soil over top the bridge will fair better.....

I'm all for good creative ideas for the city. This is not a good creative idea. But nonetheless glad that those involved are having fun, hopefully the discussions can spawn good ideas in the future.

Join the society and help shape it then.

I'm not sure you read my response, but it would be futile for me to join and attempt to reshape it, I take issue with the entire concept. I outlined the issues quite clearly above, joining the society would do nothing for items 2, 3, and 4.

The only outcome I would want to achieve by joining is to have the society pursue an entirely new venture and leave this one on the drawing board. I don't assume they'd want someone with that motive in their group.

Do you have any ideas for placemaking/city-building that individuals or groups haven't touched on yet? Genuinely curious.

Well, hey now, destroying something from within may possibly fit into Coldrsx's definition of "shaping" something.

So i spent 2 days racing at the Strathcona Science Park, a provincial park, this weekend. Here is a nice park that has been totally neglected by the province.

Is it a provincial park? For some reason, I thought it was the county's responsibility.

Its such a great place for cycling... and walks/runs … plus connecting the TransCanada Trail between refinery row and Rundle Park

Maybe WestJet kicked in some bucks -- probably -- but Destination Canada is a crown corp. This is an advertisement paid for by your tax dollars, not a merit list.

Liane Faulder: Helping downtown recovery, a baby step at a time, is the goal of new Edmonton project
Showcase of social innovation spreads good ideas, and hope

LIANE FAULDER Updated: October 21, 2019

Edmonton likes to think big. Look at our gigantic arena, the grand arch of the Walterdale Bridge that spans the mighty North Saskatchewan River, and Downtown’s towering new Stantec building.

Though there is nothing particularly wrong with big, there is an excellent case for small presently percolating in River City. It’s embodied by RECOVER, a project developed by the City of Edmonton, along with local partners, that aims to help solve major problems with minor adjustments.

RECOVER wants to improve urban wellness through social innovation, tackling problems such as homelessness, poverty, mental illness and addiction with a variety of small-scale, human-centred concepts. We’re not talking big policy dreams, such as guaranteed annual income. Rather, RECOVER asks people on its team to brainstorm “what-if” moments, and to take baby steps.

I'm not familiar with what "open option parking" is.
