As seems to happen at the start of every year after the Christmas party season ends, we have a couple more casualties in the bar and restaurant scene. Hot on the heels of the Bull and Barrel closing shortly before Christmas, Norma Jeans closed on the weekend, and Shoeless Joe's on King is also now closed. Norma Jeans apparently might have been as a result of a robbery a while back and the owner decided to throw in the towel, but I haven't heard anything other than speculation.

Rumours with the Bull and Barrel as well as Shoeless Joes was both were busy enough on event nights at Budweiser Gardens but otherwise pretty quiet. Am a little surprised at Shoeless, which only just opened last year, but their location in Westmount didn't last long either. I liked going to Shoeless in Westmount for games, but wasn't really in love with their food and never tried them out when they opened downtown.

Looks like the Nando's at Masonville has fallen to COVID-19 with the many others across Canada.

Does anybody remember this restaurant?

I went to university in London back in the late 80s, and there used to be this cheap buffet restaurant out at the corner of either Huron and Highbury or Cheapside and Highbury.

It served just typical roast beef, chicken, potatoes, veggies, with desserts. Nothing fancy, just the kind of cheap carb-heavy food that a bunch of university guys on a budget would load up on before going out on a Friday night.

I was reminiscing with a friend about the place and neither of us could remember the name of it, but a lot of great Friday nights started there.

If anyone remembers this place, I'd really like to hear from you.

Thanks!

It may have been called The Barn. It was at NW corner of Huron and Highbury what is now a plaza. They had live bands on Fri/Sat nights.

The Huron House used to be on the SE corner, in the plaza with the A&P and Kmart. They had a great buffet on weekends.

I am not sure this is in the right thread, but I see there is a proposal to turn the former National Sports location on Richmond and Fanshawe into a Goodness Me store, which is similar to a FarmBoy store. There are several Goodness Me stores in the GTA.

Old East 765 Bar and Grill, formerly known to us oldtimers as the Town & Country Bar on Dundas near Rectory, is closing on Feb 27. Not pandemic related apparently, but rather the landlord sold the building and the bar is out. The owner of the bar is hoping to find another location but says it's not easy finding the right spot.

Also, The International Bakery on Hamilton Rd just west of Adelaide is closing Feb 26. The 2 buildings have been bought by a Toronto investor.

Saw the news story today on the closing of International Bakery and they mentioned that the one building is going to become a Foodland grocery store. That will be a nice addition to that area. They also said that the new owners would also still be making the bread products that the bakery is famous for.

The former Beef Baron strip club is re-opening sometime soon as Bad Bunny's. Judging by the pink paint on the building, I'm assuming this is also a strip club.

Port Stanley development news.

https://london.ctvnews.ca/the-stork-...rway-1.6664676

"In 2021 London-based developers Domus & Wasko Developments entered a $1.4 million lease-to-own agreement with the municipality, allowing them to transform the nearly century old building into a microbrewery."
